Current Skincare | Toners #6

It’s been a couple of years since my last toner roundup and I’m either finished or very nearly finished all of these so here are some quick reviews before I open some more!

Isntree Yam Root Vegan Milk Toner RRP $31 CAD*

This is a lightweight, hydrating and refreshing toner which is exactly what K Beauty is known for so no surprise there! It contains yam root extract to replenish skin moisture and keep skin supple along with vegan milk complex (derived from oat, rice, coconut and other plant-based ingredients) and lipid water to strengthen the skin barrier. It feels gentle, has a milky consistency and helped hydrate and calm my skin! Read my review here! Use my Yesstyle code DANIELLESBB5 for $$ off!

Glow Recipe Cloudberry Bright Essence Toner RRP $52 CAD via IPSY*

I was pleasantly surprised by this formula having found everything I’ve tried from Glow Recipe a bit blah until this which I loved! It’s cooling, brightening and hydrating and it didn’t smell overpowering like their watermelon line. It contains Cloudberry which is packed with Vitamins C and E and Coenzyme Q10 which is antioxidant and strengthens skin. The bottle is only 75mls so I went through it quite quickly and it was hard to get the last quarter out as it’s a jelly-like consistency and comes in pump packaging but I would repurchase as it made my skin feel so good! Read my IPSY review here!

Pixi Skintreats Clarity Toner RRP £10*

Another underrated gem from Pixi! This is formulated with glycolic, lactic and salicylic acids, to promote smoother, clearer skin without drying it out! It also contains aloe and probiotics to soothe and balance skin. It used this anytime my skin felt like it was breaking out and it helped so much with congestion! It’s alcohol free so didn’t dry my skin out but worked well to exfoliate and keep spots under control!

Farmacy Honey Milk Hydrating Essence RRP $52 CAD*

I was spoilt earlier this year when Farmacy sent me their three toners! This one is a toner/essence hybrid with chamomile to calm and soothe, ceramides to replenish the skins moisture barrier, smooth fine lines and boost elasticity as well as honey to heal and nurture dry skin. I have loved using this – it’s hydrating, and softens and soothes my skin leaving it ready for my next skincare steps!

Farmacy Brighten Up 3% TXA Dark Spot Toner RRP $52 CAD*

This one might be my favourite of the Farmacy trio! It claims to reduce the look of dark spots in just 7 days and I would have to agree! It contains 3% tranexamic acid to work on aforementioned dark spots and to brighten as well as 5% PHA and azelaic acid to even skin tone and gently exfoliate. This has worked so well to brighten my skin and help lighten some stubborn dark spots I get after breakouts! It’s gentle and I love using it in both my AM and PM routines!

Farmacy Deep Sweep 2% BHA Pore Cleaning Toner RRP $52 CAD*

Lastly, another hit for Farmacy! This one contains 2% BHA to exfoliate and help clean pores, draw out excess oil and refine skin texture. Moringa refreshes skin and papaya enzymes gently exfoliate and clarify skin! This works so quickly for me to calm my skin down when I am experiencing breakouts and really helps refine problem areas and balance my skin!

I can’t recommend any of these toners enough! I have loved them all! The Farmacy are really up there though – I received them in January and they will all be finished by the end of the month so they lasted me a good 9 months with rotational daily use! I have a few toners in my stash to use up but I would repurchase all of the toners here tomorrow if I had a gap in my toner stash!

Skincare Review | K Beauty Favourites #2

k beauty favourites 2

It’s been ages since my last K Beauty favourites post and I have another bunch of products I’ve been loving so here’s round two!

k beauty toners favourites

Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Hyaluronic Toner is a light, hydrating and refreshing toner that helps prepare the skin for optimal absorption of products. It contains fermented 100% Korean-produced black rice extracts which have anti-inflammatory and brightening effects as well as beta-glucan which provides hydration and it comes in a huge 300ml bottle which has been taking me ages to get through but I’m not bored of it yet! A simple but effective daily toner! Read more in my toner post here!

Isntree Yam Root Vegan Milk Toner* is another, you guessed it, lightweight, hydrating and refreshing toner! That is what K beauty is known for so no surprise those will be the words of the day in this blog post! This one contains yam root extract to replenish skin moisture to keep skin supple along with vegan milk complex (derived from oat, rice, coconut and other plant-based ingredients) and lipid water to strengthen the skin barrier. It feels really gentle, has a milky consistency and helps hydrate my skin!

Moving onto some essences/serums now and in all honestly, I don’t notice a huge difference in the effects of these three but they all work well and I enjoy using them! They are all unscented, absorb quickly, provide my skin with hydration and support it, and keep it soft and supple!

k beauty serum essence favourites

jumiso snail mucin 95 peptide essence review

The Jumiso Snail Mucin 95 + Peptide Facial Essence* is infused with 95% snail mucin and five kinds of peptides to boost skin elasticity and repair cell damage as well as panthenol and allantoin to sooth and hydrate. It’s got that classic sticky, “snail” texture and again, it’s suitable for sensitive skin. This comes in a huge 140ml bottle so I tend to use this on my chest and decolletage area too!

vegreen serum review

The Vegreen Nature Mucin Serum* is a non-snail mucin serum containing mucin from wild yam, panthenol, peptides and ceramides. It helps with skin elasticity and moisture as well as protecting and repairing damaged skin. The Vegreen Skin Barrier Reishi Serum* is formulated with 3 types of mushrooms - Reishi to strengthens the skin barrier; Chaga - an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-aging extract which protects the skin from sun damage; and Tremella Fuciformis Extract which helps enhance skin elasticity, and plump and smooth fine lines. It also contains probiotics which maintain the skin's microbiome to reduce skin sensitivity.

Both Vegreen serums have more watery textures and I will usually take one of them with me when I am packing light and going on a trip as they work so well in both my AM and PM routine (and are in smaller bottles than the Jumiso - the big bottle is all I have left!).

K beauty sunscreens are in a league of their own and I can’t recommend the next three products enough if you need a new SPF! They all feel lightweight and absorb quickly into the skin leaving no white cast (I have fair skin for reference!) and sit beautifully under makeup with no pilling! They protect my skin so well and I haven’t got burnt on my face while using them!

k beauty spfs favourites

Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun : Rice + Probiotics SPF50+ PA++++ is a chemical sunscreen containing niacinamide, rice extract and grain-derived probiotics to help keep skin supple and hydrated.

My most recent SPF favourite find and the one I took to Mexico in March with me – the Tocobo Bio Watery Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++. Again, this is a chemical sunscreen containing mung bean extract to soothe irritation, along with bio-hyaluronic acid to boost skin moisture.

Aside from having a cool purple tint that helps to neutralise yellow undertones, the Isntree Purple Protector Onion Newpair Sunscreen SPF40 PA+++* is another chemical sunscreen that contains 5% red onion extract, allantoin and heartleaf extract to hydrate and soothe irritated skin. Read more in my best beauty discoveries of 2023!

I generally find K Beauty products very affordable and there are always offers on the likes of Stylevana, StyleKorean and YesStyle (use my code DANIELLESBB5 for up to 5% off)! Don’t forget, you can read my last K Beauty post here!

Let me know if you’ve tried any of these and what you thought or let me know what K Beauty products I need to try next!

Current Skincare | Toners #5

Following on from my recent current cleansers post a couple of months ago, I thought it was about time to talk about my current toners too!

toner review daniellesbeautyblog

First up, the Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Hyaluronic Toner RRP $24.36 and this was part of a large K Beauty order I did just as I got back to Canada last year! It’s enriched with fermented black rice and bamboo shoot extracts as well as hyaluronic acid and beta glucan so its anti-oxidising as well as hydrating. The texture is watery and I find it very calming. It hydrates my skin well but I do prefer the Pyunkang Yul Essence toner which I will talk about later in this post!

I got the full size Fenty Skincare Fat Water RRP $46 after enjoying the mini so much! This one contains niacinamide which helps reduce the appearance of dark spots, even skin tone, and fight excess shine, Barbados cherry which is full of vitamin C and witch hazel to reduce oil. The texture really is that of “fat water” and it’s also nicely hydrating. With consistent use it’s helped the overall tone of my skin but the packaging is not my favourite! It’s hard to get the product out and the lid can get a little messy!

I’ve just finished the Charlotte Tilbury Glow Toner RRP $66* and I really enjoyed it. It won’t be a repurchase as the price point is a little high for me but it’s a lovely, thick, milky formula. It’s acid free and contains niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, peptides and trademark ingredients Exfolactive to exfoliate and Poretight to help minimise the look of pores. Overall, my skin has been looking smoother, plumper, and generally more radiant!

Next, I have the Versed Weekend Glow Brightening Solution RRP $25* and this one contains a four-acid complex with lactic, glycolic, azelaic, and kojic acids plus Vitamin C. It’s gentle enough to use every day and helps brighten uneven skin tone and fade hyperpigmentation. It also has a fun push down mechanism to get the product on your face pad. This is one of the newer toners to my collection but I am enjoying it so far!

Now onto two repeat offenders when it comes to toners in my collection! Pixi Glow Tonic RRP $20* is a cult classic for a reason and is a staple in my collection! It contains 5% glycolic acid as well as ginseng and aloe vera for hydration. As well as dissolving dead skin cells, it diminishes signs of sun damage, fine lines and scarring, smooths uneven texture and never dries my skin out. It’s popular for a reason and one of my favourite toners! Can we also take a minute for the personalised label – a real pinch me moment for me with beauty PR!

Finally, the Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner RRP $15.95 which contains just seven ingredients including Astragalus Membranaceus Root Extract and Arginine, filling it with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants to moisturise and replenish the skin barrier. It’s thicker than a normal toner, feels very gel like and is so gentle and hydrating. It is perfect for when my skin is feeling sensitive and dry and my skin just drinks this up!

That’s my current roundup! Let me know if you have tried any of these and what you thought! If you want to read about more toners the other posts in this series are here – One, Two, Three, Four!

Current Skincare | Toners #4

It’s been just over a year since my last Toner collection update so I thought I would grab my current open bottles and do a quick rundown! This is quite exfoliating toner heavy only because in my last edition I was on Roaccutane so couldn’t use them and they have kind of built up! I definitely don’t use exfoliating products as much now as when I had acne but I still love having them in my collection as I tend to use them on my body too.

toner review daniellesbeautyblog

First up, one that is no stranger to my blog, and I have gone through many bottles of – the Pixi Glow Tonic RRP £18. This is such a cult classic and also featured in my first toner post in 2017 as it’s usually always in my collection!

Sticking with glycolic acid the Good Molecules Glycolic Exfoliating Toner RRP $14* is another good one. This is a 3.5% glycolic concentration so even more gentle than the Glow Tonic and perfect if you have sensitive skin. My skin feels smooth and even with continued use and I love the Good Molecules nothing to hide ingredients list. This toner also contains galactomyces ferment which helps retain skin barrier function and moisture level as well as hyaluronic acid and aloe to help to hydrate and soothe skin. Read my full review here!

Moving away from glycolic now to the By Wishtrend Mandelic Acid 5% Skin Prep Water RRP £20.10. Mandelic acid has a larger molecular structure than glycolic so is even more gentle though similarly works to improve pigmentation and even skintone. This one also contains beta glucan – an anti-inflammatory, panthenol and centella asiatica to help regenerate and sodium hyaluronate for hydration. I personally think glycolic acid works better for my skin when it comes to pigmentation but this does a great job at smoothing and evening skin tone and was the only exfoliating toner I dared try when I was at the end of my Roaccutane course and needed a little exfoliation so I can attest to its gentleness on my skin as I had no issues (but proceed with caution if on Roaccutane)!

I probably should have kept the Sioris Feels So Fresh Toner RRP £17 out of this round up because it’s the only one I haven’t really managed to form an opinion on! It falls into the nice but boring category for me, I don’t have any issues with it, but it hasn’t stood out to me either. It contains Black Willow Extract to exfoliate, eliminate blackheads and control oil, Guava Leaf Extract (an antioxidant) and Broccoli Extract to soothe and calm skin. I bought this pre Roaccutane then didn’t use it when I was on the drug and now my skin type has changed, and these aren’t my skin concerns anymore so it’s difficult to review it! What I will say though is that it’s another one that feels gentle and doesn’t dry my skin out despite the sebum controlling properties, but I do have other toners I prefer.

Next, I have the CosRX AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner RRP £19.99 and this is my second bottle – I had it years ago and really enjoyed it. It contains willow bark water and apple fruit water to clear clogged pores and dead skin cells as well as glycolic acid and betaine salicylate. My skin is smoother with use and I love the spray bottle – I actually use this a lot on my body too, particularly on KP on the backs of my arms as well as my chest and back where I do still get the occasional spot and it works so well to smooth my skin and is super easy to distribute!

Another old favourite and I have been through a few bottles of the Dear Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner RRP £20.10* too! My skin loves this for how calming and hydrating it is. It’s a gel like texture and contains hyaluronic acid centella asiatica and amino acids so as well as feeling cooling and calming it helps add moisture and strengthen my skin. A simple but hydrating formula – my skin drinks it up and looks plumper after use! There are essential oils in this formula which don’t cause any sensitivity for me but Klairs also have an unscented version without them! Read more about this toner in my K Beauty favourites here!

Lastly, the Glow Recipe PHA + BHA Pore Tight Toner RRP £14. The Glow Recipe products I have tried in the past are really meh to me to be honest and it’s not a brand I get excited about over the latest releases. I have had minis of their watermelon sleep mask, blueberry cleanser and lip pop and I just don’t get the hype but I will say that this toner is the best out of the products I have tried! It contains hyaluronic acid to hydrate, PHA’s and BHA’s to smooth and decongest skin and my skin did feel smooth with use. I don’t like the sickly-sweet scent or the almost greasy consistency of this though and I think there are better options for better prices!
