Haircare | A Review of Briogeo's Nourishing Haircare Products

briogeo review scalp revival don't despair repair

I’m back today with another haircare brand overview, this time it’s Briogeo’s turn! Before being sent these products, I had only tried sample sizes of some of their masks before and we know those don’t tend to last too long so it’s been a treat to try the full sizes! Briogeo are a “clean” at Sephora brand and their products are vegan, sulphate and silicone free, cruelty free and vegan.

briogeo scalp revival review

Going straight in with my favourite of the bunch and the Briogeo Scalp Revival Charcoal and Coconut Oil Micro-Exfoliating Shampoo* / $54 Sephora CA / £36 Sephora UK has really impressed me as you might have seen from my Best Beauty Discoveries 2022 post! I am a sucker for a scalp scrub and have tried quite a few over the years. Although I have an oily scalp, I sometimes get dandruff, and, as a big user of dry shampoo between washes, I love scalp scrubs to reset my scalp and help remove build-up. Ingredients wise, Scalp Revival uses vegetable-derived micro-exfoliators to remove dead skin cells and build-up from the scalp to support a clean, balanced, and healthy scalp. It also contains Binchotan charcoal to draw impurities from the scalp and hair follicle, a cooling blend of peppermint and spearmint oils (so you know it also smells so refreshing and minty!) to reduce scalp itchiness and tea tree oil for anti-septic and healing properties that reduce scalp irritation and inflammation. Coconut Oil provides superior moisturization to the scalp to combat and prevent dryness and flakiness and panthenol, provides essential nutrients to strengthen the hair roots and shaft.

The micro-exfoliators are very fine and gentle and this isn’t the “scrubbiest” scrub I have tried. In fact, the first time I used it, I was convinced this wasn't going to clean my hair properly and it was still going to be greasy after I got out of the shower as there is no lather but I couldn’t have been more wrong! I tend to use this once a week and it makes my hair look and feel the cleanest and softest it’s ever been and my scalp feels invigorated! I am obsessed!

briogeo texture scalp revival

Next up, one of Briogeo’s other bestselling products, this time from the dry and damaged line – the Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Hair Mask Mask* / $50 Sephora CA / £33 Sephora UK. Another one that’s a weekly treatment and one I use along with the scalp revival! It contains rosehip oil to hydrate and control frizz and split ends, B-vitamins to restore nourishment to hair damaged by heat or chemical treatments, almond oil to enhance the shine and luster of dry or weak hair and algae extract which rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that protect from damage.

This mask is clinically proven to boost hair strength, shine, and silkiness and improve the long-term health of damaged hair. It’s a much thinner consistency than other hair masks I have used but I don’t find I have to use too much to cover the lengths of my hair (I have long but fine hair). I leave it on for 10 minutes while I shower and it rinses out easily not leaving my hair weighed down. My hair feels hydrated, soft and manageable once it’s dried and the tub is lasting me forever! It has a very subtle, enjoyable scent too!

briogeo scalp revivan don't despair repair review

Next, the Farewell Frizz Rosarco Milk Leave-In Conditioner* $33 / Sephora CA / £22.50 Sephora UK. This contains rosehip, argan and coconut oils, and claims to effectively fight frizz, detangle and restore hair's softness, strength, manageability, and moisture levels, while acting as a barrier against humidity. It seals the hair cuticle to lock in moisture, restore luster, and diminish frizz without leaving behind product buildup. I find this lightweight and it helps smooth my hair but I don’t think it detangles as well as my Sol de Janeiro leave in conditioner or smells as good as my OUAI leave in and it doesn’t offer heat protection (as far as I can see) so while I will use this up, I won’t necessarily rush to repurchase it!

Lastly, the B. Well Vegan Omega 3, 6,9 + Biotin Supplements $85.95*. This blend supports healthy, strong hair and it is recommended to take 2 a day. I stopped my other vitamins while I took these and while I felt my hair was healthy while I was on them, they are so expensive! Not in my budget to repurchase and I didn’t find a vast difference between these and my usual supplements other than the fact it's handy to take just 2 instead of a concoction of a few different ones!

Overall, I have really enjoyed trying this brand and the products that stand out to me the most are the Scalp Revival and deep conditioning hair mask - they are cult favourites for a reason! Have you tried anything from Briogeo before? Let me know if there is anything else I need to try!

Haircare | Kérastase Nutritive Range Review

kerastase nutritive range haircare review

A few months ago I got a haircare package of dreams from Kérastase with five products from their Nutritive range as well as one of their bestsellers, the Elixir Ultime Oil! This is one of the most hyped haircare brands there is and I have been trying them out for the last few months so if you have been wondering how any of the products perform, read on to hear my thoughts after a little ramble about my hair!!

My hair is long, fine and brown (not colour treated). I struggle with dry and split ends because I use heat tools and go longer than I should between haircuts and my roots tend to get oily quickly. In the past, I have generally stuck to SLS free shampoos due to what I think sometimes is scaremongering over SLS shampoos being harsh or causing irritation when in fact I have never experienced this myself. Shampoos containing SLS are also a good way to remove build up from your hair so I reintroduced these back into my haircare routine more regularly quite a while back though I still also regularly use SLS free shampoos as well and find a mix of the two is suiting my hair perfectly!

Frizz has been a more recent battle for me as my hair has never been so frizzy as in the last 1.5 years and it’s been lacking its usual shine. I’m not sure if this is due to hormones/ageing (I'm 31) or working from home (drier air) or a mixture of everything so finding the right routine for me is an ongoing process and while I am loyal to haircare brands such as OUAI and Olaplex, I love to switch it up too and have definitely found a few favourites in these Kérastase products! The styling products contain silicones which again are usually a love/hate thing for most people but I have found myself having to use them to keep the frizz and flyaways in check and they are some of the most lightweight, non-greasy formulas I have tried!

kerastase nutritive haircare

To start with, the Kérastase Bain Satin 1 Shampoo for slightly dry hair RRP £21.55* – an SLS containing shampoo and the most lightly scented out of Nutritive range! This lathers well and makes my scalp and hair feel clean without drying it out (note I don’t have a particularly sensitive scalp). Despite being formulated for dry hair, this doesn’t weigh my hair down and it makes it feel soft and look shiny! I tend to wash my hair twice a week, once with this and once with an SLS free shampoo and this routine seems to be working well for my hair!

Next up, the Lait Vital Conditioner RRP £28.20* and this along with the mask smell absolutely incredible! I mean it when I say I am obsessed, scent in haircare is very important to me because it tends to last quite a while in my hair and I am picky with fragrance. I am not very good at explaining scents but it just smells luxurious and clean and a bit like you’ve been on holiday or to the hairdresser. This is a nourishing conditioner, again for dry hair, and I apply through my mid lengths and ends. It doesn’t feel overly thick but works well to smooth my hair and leave it feeling soft and swishy and the scent really does last!

kerastase hair mask review

I am a sucker for a hair mask and the Masquintense Thick Hair Mask RRP £36.30* has been an absolute treat to use! It smells the same as the conditioner but maybe a little more concentrated, is thicker and richer and I like to leave it on 15-20 minutes before rinsing out. It leaves my hair feeling super soft, smooth and the ends well hydrated which makes them look so much healthier! Despite my hair not being thick, it rinses out well and doesn’t leave it weighed down. It’s a huge 200ml too and a tiny bit goes a long way so I know I am going to turn to this a lot in the winter to keep my hair in good condition!

kerastase nutritive hair range review

After my wash/conditioning/masking is all done I have been using either the Nectar Thermique Heat Protector RRP £29.05* or the Elixir Ultime L’Huile Original RRP £40* as both offer heat protection. The Nectar Thermique is a light cream while the Elixir is a combination of 5 oils. I tend to steer away from hair oils as in the past I have found some formulations too heavy for my hair, so I used this with caution but was very pleasantly surprised! It adds beautiful shine to my hair with no grease in sight as well as smoothing frizz and flyaways! It also works well on dry hair but I tend to use on damp and the oil works better for me in terms or frizz control than the Nectar Thermique!

kerastase haircare worth it

Lastly and by no means least, the boujiest hair treatment I have used - the Nutritive 8h Magic Nourishing Overnight Serum RRP £40*. This is a serum you apply to hair before bed and it works overnight to help condition and replenish dry hair. Continuing with the theme of Kérastase hair products, this smells divine and my hair also drinks it up. It looks shiny the next day as well as thicker and healthier at the ends and I can use this a few nights in a row without it weighing down my hair or making it greasier quicker! This is definitely a little “extra” but so good!

kerastase nutritive review

Overall, while the brand is on the pricier side of things, I have been super impressed by the effects on my hair. The sizes are generous too and a little goes a long way! I have been using these for months and have barely made a dent! My favourites would have to be the mask, oil and overnight serum and there are definitely a few other products from their other ranges I now have my eye on! Have you tried any Kérastase? What’s your favourite product?

Kérastase products are available from their website, Look Fantastic, and Sephora,

Introduction to Klorane

Klorane oat milk range shampoo conditioner dry shampoo review

Recently I was sent a few products from Klorane to try and after using them for the last month I’m ready to give my thoughts! Having never tried the brand before, I was excited to see a shampoo, conditioner and dry shampoo included as these three are my most used hair products!

I was sent the oat milk range which is suitable for frequent use on all hair types – for reference I have long hair with greasy roots and dry ends! First up, the Klorane shampoo with oat milk* and my first impression of this was that it was a lot more liquidy (is that a word?) than I am used to! I always do two washes and I found that this didn’t lather up much with the first wash but did a little more with the second. It contains sodium laureth sulphate (not to be confused with sodium lauryl suphate), a milder cleansing agent so this could be why! It cleans my hair beautifully and leaves it with a gorgeous shine! I love how gentle this feels and how it doesn’t overload my hair with product!

I maybe should have talked about the conditioner first because as a reverse washer, I rinse my hair and use this before shampooing! Like the shampoo, the Klorane conditioner with oat milk* is super gentle and the star of the show for me! It promises to protect and detangle and I have never found a detangling product that works for me until this! As the original Tatty Bogle (top marks if you get that reference!), every time I use this I can’t get over how much more manageable my hair is and I can now actually get a brush through it without ripping hair out! Like the shampoo, it doesn’t overload or weigh my hair down, it just makes it lovely and clean and easy to manage! Both products are also suitable for children so great all-rounder’s if there are a lot of people in your household and they have a really gentle light scent!

Lastly, I was sent the Klorane Dry Shampoo with oat milk* and we all know dry shampoo is a staple in my routine (and most peoples I think!). This has a really familiar scent to me though I’m not sure where I know if from but it smells really fresh. It’s recommended to spray 10 inches from your hair then leave for two minutes before brushing the powder out. I usually rub it in a little before brushing and the powder disappears quickly leaving my hair refreshed and clean looking so I can get an extra day without washing! The dry shampoo contains silica and starch as well as beta cyclodextrine which all work together to absorb oils from the hair and they do a great job! If it’s good enough for Margot Robbie it’s good enough for me!

Overall, a lovely range of hair products and I have a new obsession in the conditioner so if you have tatty hair that you find hard to detangle you need to try this! Have you tried anything from Klorane before?

Klorane is available at Boots, Escentual.com and lookfantastic.com!

Yes OUAI

OUAI haircare review repair shampoo conditioner finishing creme wave spray

Morning everyone! I was recently sent some exciting hair products to try out from celebrity hairstylist Jen Atkin’s new haircare brand OUAI! Looking after the likes of the Kardashians and Chrissy Teigan’s hair I had high hopes for these products and *spoiler alert* they didn’t disappoint! Called OUAI after the casual slang for yes in French, this brand is all about getting good hair (inside and out) the easy way.

First off let’s talk about the packaging. Chic, simplistic, understated and I love the hexagonal lids of the shampoo and conditioner! All the products have very generous sized packaging so even though they are more expensive than your average drugstore hair product you really are getting value for your money. OUAI products are also not tested on animals.

The OUAI Repair Shampoo* (RRP £22) is a nourishing shampoo, free from parabens and sulphates, designed to fortify breakage prone hair and leave it feeling stronger and shinier. Although I have oily hair (with dry ends) I haven’t found this too much for my roots at all and have been washing my hair as normal every second day! It leaves my hair stronger and looking shinier and works perfectly with the OUAI Repair Conditioner* (RRP £22). This is a moisturising shampoo that nourishes damaged hair without adding weight which is perfect for my fine hair! I got it cut about three weeks ago so it is in pretty good condition at the minute anyway but it grows quickly and I use heat on it every day so the ends do tend to get damaged!

OUAI’s range of shampoos share a signature scent which includes a blend of Italian lemon, Turkish rose, jasmine, iris, lily and white musk while the range of conditioners also share a signature scent – a blend of Italian lemon, bergamot, rose de mai, magnolia, lily, blackberry, cedar wood, amber, patchouli, sandalwood and white musk. I can definitely detect the slight difference in scent but they both work together so well to create a long-lasting, distinctive scent that lasts to my next wash!

The OUAI Finishing Crème* (RRP £20) is a lightweight cream I've been using on the ends of my hair, it smooth’s dry ends and gives hair extra shine! It also protects against UV rays, pollutants and heat but I felt like I was missing out on this quality the first few times I used it as I applied the crème after I was finished styling with my GHD’s. I now pop a little in damp hair before blow drying and then a little more after I've finished styling and it works so well to tame flyways while not weighing my hair down!

OUAI haircare finishing creme reveiw

When I first saw the OUAI Wave Spray* (RRP £22) I almost mistook it for the hair oil because of its colour! The wave spray is a lightweight texturizing mist perfect for enhancing your natural waves to give it perfectly undone look. I unfortunately don’t have a natural wave to enhance so I rely on a wave wand to make my hair look undone! I spray this liberally through the lengths of my hair when it’s damp and a little bit into the roots then rough dry before taking different sized sections and wrapping round my wave wand. I’m so impressed with the finished result! As my hair is quite straight naturally, anytime I curl it I have to spray so much hairspray or the curl will fall out almost straight away. To properly test the “memory” claims this wave spray has I've been forgoing the hair spray and I can’t get over the results! My waves last all day, they have a gorgeous texture that doesn’t feel sticky or crunchy, it doesn’t make my hair greasy and it smells amazing too! I’ll spray some more in my hair the next day, turn upside down and scrunch upwards to get a bit more volume and texture. It’s also been forcing me out of my comfort zone as a serial hair straightener! Like the shampoo and conditioner, the wave spray contains similar notes contributing to its beautiful musky scent. A perfume with the OUAI scent will also be released next year!

OUAI haircare repair shampoo conditioner wave spray review
A cringey timer shot of me ruffling my hair after washing with the Repair shampoo and conditioner and using the Wave Spray and a waving wand - hope you can see the shine!
All OUAI Haircare products also contain what they call Smart Technology – a cocktail of nourishing ingredients including amino acids, tamarind seed, keratin, ama oil, hibiscus and jasmine to fortify strands, enhance moisture levels, repair and protect from humidity. All these elements work together to make my hair supper soft, shiny and yep I’m going to say it – swishy! Definitely a brand to try!

You can purchase OUAI Haircare from Cult Beauty, Look Fantastic and SpaceNK.

Have you tried anything from OUAI Haircare? What’s your favourite hair care brand?

Garnier Ultimate Blends The Strength Restorer Honey Treasures for Fragile Hair prone to Breakage

<img src="Garnier ultimate blends strengh restorer honey treasures.JPG" alt="Garnier strength restorer range of hair care review">

As a member of the website Bzz Agent I regularly take part in surveys and was lucky enough to be chosen to take part in the Garnier Ultimate Blends campaign at the end of March. I have long fine hair that gets greasy quickly but is prone to split ends and I straighten it every day so it breaks easily unfortunately! Now I have had time to try out the Strength Restorer range I got sent, here are my thoughts!

Garnier Ultimate Blends The Strength Restorer Shampoo
To me, this shampoo smells almost more like vanilla than honey which is maybe a good thing because I know some people hate the smell of honey! I found this shampoo to lather nicely and clean my hair well giving it a nice shine that didn’t make it go greasy any quicker than other shampoos I use.

Garnier Ultimate Blends The Strength Restorer Conditioner
This is a really creamy conditioner that feels more expensive than it is. I put this through the ends of my hair before shampooing as my hair can be quite oily and this way I can thoroughly rinse it out. It leaves my hair feeling lovely and soft and makes my hair nice and swishy!

Garnier Ultimate Blends The Strength Restorer 1 Minute Treatment
I really like the fact this is not a 10 minute treatment because if I’m in a rush I won’t usually do this step as it takes so long. This 1 minute treatment does the same job in a lot less time. I find this product to give my hair an extra boost in hydration and make it even softer than if I had used just the conditioner.

Garnier Ultimate Blends The Strength Restorer Serum
This serum is really runny but lightweight, I put it through the ends and mid lengths of my hair where it seals my split ends and makes my hair look way healthier than it actually is! The thing I am most impressed about with this serum is the fact it doesn’t make my hair greasy which I can find with some other serums I have tried!

I was also generously given an extra One Minute Treatment which I gave to my aunts and cousins to share and they also loved how soft it made their hair in such a short time and felt it was a generous amount of product in the tube!

Overall I think this range is great for those on a budget and I would especially recommend the serum for those with damaged split ends to make them look a little healthier without weighing your hair down! There are lots of different “blends” in the range that will appeal to people with different hair types too!
