Current Skincare | Toners #5

Following on from my recent current cleansers post a couple of months ago, I thought it was about time to talk about my current toners too!

toner review daniellesbeautyblog

First up, the Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Hyaluronic Toner RRP $24.36 and this was part of a large K Beauty order I did just as I got back to Canada last year! It’s enriched with fermented black rice and bamboo shoot extracts as well as hyaluronic acid and beta glucan so its anti-oxidising as well as hydrating. The texture is watery and I find it very calming. It hydrates my skin well but I do prefer the Pyunkang Yul Essence toner which I will talk about later in this post!

I got the full size Fenty Skincare Fat Water RRP $46 after enjoying the mini so much! This one contains niacinamide which helps reduce the appearance of dark spots, even skin tone, and fight excess shine, Barbados cherry which is full of vitamin C and witch hazel to reduce oil. The texture really is that of “fat water” and it’s also nicely hydrating. With consistent use it’s helped the overall tone of my skin but the packaging is not my favourite! It’s hard to get the product out and the lid can get a little messy!

I’ve just finished the Charlotte Tilbury Glow Toner RRP $66* and I really enjoyed it. It won’t be a repurchase as the price point is a little high for me but it’s a lovely, thick, milky formula. It’s acid free and contains niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, peptides and trademark ingredients Exfolactive to exfoliate and Poretight to help minimise the look of pores. Overall, my skin has been looking smoother, plumper, and generally more radiant!

Next, I have the Versed Weekend Glow Brightening Solution RRP $25* and this one contains a four-acid complex with lactic, glycolic, azelaic, and kojic acids plus Vitamin C. It’s gentle enough to use every day and helps brighten uneven skin tone and fade hyperpigmentation. It also has a fun push down mechanism to get the product on your face pad. This is one of the newer toners to my collection but I am enjoying it so far!

Now onto two repeat offenders when it comes to toners in my collection! Pixi Glow Tonic RRP $20* is a cult classic for a reason and is a staple in my collection! It contains 5% glycolic acid as well as ginseng and aloe vera for hydration. As well as dissolving dead skin cells, it diminishes signs of sun damage, fine lines and scarring, smooths uneven texture and never dries my skin out. It’s popular for a reason and one of my favourite toners! Can we also take a minute for the personalised label – a real pinch me moment for me with beauty PR!

Finally, the Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner RRP $15.95 which contains just seven ingredients including Astragalus Membranaceus Root Extract and Arginine, filling it with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants to moisturise and replenish the skin barrier. It’s thicker than a normal toner, feels very gel like and is so gentle and hydrating. It is perfect for when my skin is feeling sensitive and dry and my skin just drinks this up!

That’s my current roundup! Let me know if you have tried any of these and what you thought! If you want to read about more toners the other posts in this series are here – One, Two, Three, Four!

Skincare Review | K Beauty Favourites

k beauty favourites

Over the last year, my collection of K Beauty skincare products has grown significantly so I thought now would be a good time to talk about some favourites! I am so happy more brands and products are easily available in the UK now through the likes of Tonic15 as well as moving into LookFantastic and Cult Beauty and I have a wishlist as long as my arm of products I want to try!

I recently did a whole post on my current toners which included these three so I will keep this brief but I love all three of these and am already on my second bottle of the Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner! This was one of my favourite skincare discoveries of last year and a staple for me while on Roaccutane as my skin was so dry. It is cooling, soothing and hydrating and very similar to the Dear Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner! Another gel like toner, this one is also perfect for dehydrated skin. Finally, the I’m From Rice Toner, a milky, hydrating toner that brightens and evens out my skintone. It feels calming and balancing and rounds off a trio of impressive toners! I actually have a couple of others in my stash that I haven’t had the chance to test properly yet but I finished my Roaccutane tablets last week so it won’t be too long before I get them into rotation! If you want to read a more detailed review of these three toners see my Current Skincare | Toners post here!

k beauty toners review

The K Beauty product I have been using for the longest is the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask and I went through a couple of minis of these in Canada and bought the big one just before I left and it has lasted a lifetime! I know people either love this or hate it but I am firmly in the love it category. It is so nourishing, gently exfoliates lips making them feel smooth and it keeps them from drying out overnight which is a must for me! I am so happy Laneige are about to be stocked at Cult Beauty too!

The I’m From Mugwort Essence also made its way into my daily routine last year and as with the toners, it was bought as a soothing, calming addition to my skincare collection! It’s a watery consistency and I press onto my skin with my palms after toner. This contains 100% Mugwort which is rich in antioxidants and really helps to calm redness in my skin leaving it smooth and helping with any irritation. It feels hydrating and though the most expensive of the products here at £37 it is well worth it, a bottle lasts forever and my skin loves it! I want to they their Fig Boosting Essence next! Read more about it in this Five Things I’m Loving post or my Roaccutane Diaries!

i'm from mugwort mask review

As I loved the essence so much I decided to pick up the I’m From Mugwort Mask to match! It’s a gorgeous gentle, wash off mask perfect for sensitive and irritated skin like mine has been! It instantly calms angry skin down and takes any redness out. It has a very earthy, textured gel consistency but the mugwort pieces are not abrasive at all and the slight scent is fine! It only needs to be on for 5-10 minutes to be effective and my skin always feels so soothed and calm after!

k beauty face masks

Lastly, the Huxley Good Night Sleep Mask is another favourite! It contains Pricky pear seed oil, hyaluronic acid and centella asiatica and though it’s an overnight mask, it’s a super lightweight gel and absorbs quickly. The first time I used this I thought I would wake up with my skin feeling parched but even though it does sink in quickly, my skin doesn’t dry out overnight. I wake up with hydrated, smooth and plump skin so this is a winner for me! It’s so cooling and soothing and it also featured in my Best Beauty Discoveries of 2020!

Like I said, I have a few other K Beauty items in my stash I haven’t had a chance to test properly as well as a huge wishlist so there may well be a part two to this post! In the meantime I would love to know what your favourite K Beauty products are!

Current Skincare | Toners #3

I am so close to finishing most of these toners I thought it was high time I did another roundup! Now, I do currently have more than these four toners in my collection but I am still taking Roaccutane so these are all I have been using for the last 5 and a half months as they are all gentle and hydrating so perfect for my drier than normal, sensitive skin!

hydrating toners for sensitive skin

Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner RRP £16 for200ml

One of my favourite beauty discoveries of 2020, this is my second bottle as I love it so much!

It contains just seven ingredients (milk vetch root extract being the main one), and is instantly cooling and soothing. It’s thicker than a normal toner, feels very gel like and is so gentle and hydrating. Like I said, it is perfect for my currently sensitive and dry skin and my face just drinks this up! I apply with a cotton pad like I would a toner but you can also apply by patting in with your hands like you would an essence. Previously, I had the 100ml and but I upgraded to the 200ml as I love it so much! Full review here!

I’m From Rice Toner RRP £26 for 150ml

Continuing with the K Beauty theme, this is a milky, hydrating toner that contains rice extract to brighten the skin as well as one of my favourite skincare ingredients, niacinamide! I love using this in the morning as it feels calming and balancing as well as brightening and doesn’t dry my skin out so it feels well prepped for my next skincare steps and makeup. Overall, my skin looks more even and this also featured in this Five Things I’m Loving post here!

Dear Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner RRP £20.10 for 180ml

Like the Pyunkang Yul, this is another gel like toner perfect for dehydrated skin. It is formulated with hyaluronic acid as well as centella Asiatica and amino acids so as well as being hydrating, it is cooling and anti-inflammatory. Like the name suggests, it preps skin well for my next skincare steps leaving it plump and calmed. I would say I prefer the Pyunkang Yul just very slightly over this though the two are very similar! I seemed to gravitate towards the essence toner more when I started Roaccutane as it felt slightly more hydrating to me but this one is still a great shout too!

Scientia Peach and Glow Hydra Skin Tonic* RRP £24 for 100ml

With my skin being too sensitive for any products containing glycolic acid, salicylic acid and retinol at the minute, I was happy to see this toner contains Tranexamic acid and Bakuchiol, two much gentler alternatives to help with pigmentation and fine lines! It also targets dullness and the ingredients list has Matrixyl 3000 and Glycerin in there too resulting in hydrated and brighter skin. Since using this toner, I have found my skin tone looks more even although I haven’t seen a dramatic difference in my pigmentation but there is some improvement for sure! My skin does look much brighter though and I think this has been helping combat fine lines. It leaves my skin feeling soft and well prepped and though you can use by patting into skin I still prefer to use a reusable cotton pad to apply! Full review of Scientia Skincare here!

So, that’s the current toners I have on rotation! If you would like to see instalments one and two you can! And if you want to see my full toner collection it's right here! I have about a week of accutane left then I will be adding them back into my routine as my skin gets less sensitive! Let me know your favourite toners!

Forever Repurchased #10

forever repurchased the balm down boy review

Fun fact – after my empties posts, these are my favourite to write up but always receive the least engagement haha so if you are reading or commenting, thank you! Coming up to Christmas, my spending was in full force and it resulted in a few repurchases of products I had either run out of or wanted to replace!

the balm down boy blush review

First up, The Balm Down Boy and my original version of this is the oldest blush in my collection at this point! It’s very well loved (although no pan :() and has been on countless trips with me because as well as being in very sturdy packaging even though it’s only cardboard, the baby pink matte shade is super flattering, not too pigmented and lasts all day on my normally oily skin! It is also very reasonably priced at £13 (I got mine from Look Fantastic where there is always a discount as well!) I never hear The Balm talked about much anymore and this shade was out of stock on a few other websites so I just bit the bullet and repurchased as knowing my luck it will be discontinued or something!

the balm down boy blush blusher review

Next up is another replacement in the form of Essie Bahama Mama! I got rid of a lot of nail polishes in my collection a couple of years ago as apart from two, I never wore them and they were just sitting there. Bahama Mama was one of the two and I thought it was finally time to treat myself to a new bottle as mine again was very well loved and the formula was getting a bit gloopy with whatever was left. This is the most perfect plum, burgundy shade and it’s opaque in two coats. I also wanted to replace Essie Midnight Cami aswell but unfortunately this seems to be discontinued which I am gutted about!

The Becca Backlight Priming Filter has been a constant in my makeup collection for the last few years albeit in mini form as I kept getting them in GWP’s from Cult Beauty then Sephora. I picked up the value set at Christmas as I love having it in my routine! I don’t use this to make my makeup last longer but I do use it to add glow (not glitter) and blur imperfections. It’s a pearlescent cream that adds luminosity and as a matte foundation and powder lover, this gives my makeup the little somethin’ somethin’ that it can sometimes be missing. I also used to love their liquid shimmering skin perfector and I would mix that into foundation but it seems like it’s been discontinued!

A couple of skincare items next and I repurchased the Cerave Eye Repair Cream before I had even finished my first one! It’s the perfect, simple eye cream and works well to hydrate round my eyes! It contains ceramides and hyaluronic acid and targets dark circles and puffiness too! I find my fine lines aren’t as noticeable and while my circles aren’t that dark it helps to decrease my puffiness! It also sinks in quickly and sits well under my makeup as well as feeling hydrating enough overnight too!

Finally, the Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner which at this point features in every other post on my blog so I won’t harp on about it for too long! Basically this is the best hydrating toner I have tried and even though I have a couple other hydrating toners on the go and didn’t necessarily “need” this one right away I ordered it when there was a discount so it’s ready to go! It contains seven ingredients in a gel like formula and it is just perfect for my sensitive skin right now! It’s go gentle, cooling and hydrating and I totally get the hype surrounding it!

So that’s a roundup of my latest forever repurchased products! Do you own any of these? What’s one beauty product you always repurchase?

Best Beauty Discoveries 2020 | Skin and Bodycare

best skincare body care 2020

Welcome back everyone! I hope you were able to have a nice break over the holidays! I’ve been keeping a little list over the last couple of weeks of what my favourite skin and body care products have been this year and that’s what I’m going to share today! Ideally, I would have had hair and makeup favourites in this too but as always there are just too many to mention so I’ll get that up next week! I don’t think any of these are new releases for this year but they were new to me either at the very end of 2019 when it was too early for me to know how much I loved it or has been purchased this year!

best body care 2020

Starting with body products, the Bioderma Atoderm Ultra-Nourishing Anti-Irritation Shower Oil (full review) which quickly became a favourite when I picked it up to help with my drier skin due to going on Roaccutane (this will be a theme throughout this post lol). It’s so soothing, hydrating and not greasy at all! I have a full review here but I cannot recommend this enough especially if you find you get dry patches or drier skin in the winter! I’ve recently got sent some more bits from their Atoderm body range which I have been enjoying too but too soon to say they are my best discoveries of the year :P

Sticking with bodycare, the Bali Body Self-Tanning Mousse* (full review) is the only fake tan I have used this year! It has a guide colour so is fool proof and it leaves a beautiful medium darkness natural tan when left overnight to develop! I can get a good 4-5 days out of this when I moisturise well and even when it starts to wear of it’s so even I don’t notice! Finally, in the bodycare category, I have to mention the OUAI Melrose Place Eau de Parfum (full review). I have worn this nearly every day since I got it earlier this year! It’s the perfect subtle, rose scent and I will be so upset if they ever discontinue it (which happens to all my favourite perfumes)!

best skincare 2020

Moving onto skincare now and I’m going to try and go through these quickly as I feel like they get featured a lot on my blog already so I don’t want to bore you! Starting with cleansers, I finally picked up two very hyped budget cleansers this year and loved them both! The Cerave Hydrating Cleanser is just perfect at the minute for my morning cleanse, it’s a very simple cleanser packed full of ceramides and hyaluronic acid that doesn’t foam up too much and leaves my skin feeling clean and hydrated as you would expect from the name! Similarly, The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser is another hydrating product that can be used as a first or second cleanse and I am kicking myself for not getting on this hype train sooner! It feels beautiful, breaks down makeup easily and leaves my skin feeling soft and hydrated! Will definitely be getting the big size next!

Next up, I have fallen in love with quite a few toners this year so this was a hard one for me but the Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner (full review) is one I have fully used up, loved and repurchased! It’s gel like, cooling and most importantly for my skin at the minute - hydrating! In terms of treatments, the Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant (full review) was a game changer for me at the start of the year. It works amazingly on congested, oily skin and my skin always looks so much clearer and brighter the morning after use!

Moving onto hyaluronic acid and the Hada Labo Tokyo Lotion No1 Super Hydrator has impressed me so much – it contains 3 different types of hyaluronic acid and really helps keep moisture locked in all day for me. I was so worried going on Roaccutane about the skin dryness but I have been shocked at how well my skin is coping and this is one of the products I have been using every day! It’s also very reasonably priced for such a huge bottle!

This year I have really gotten into K Beauty and I have started incorporating steps I wouldn’t normally such as using as essence and my weapon of choice is the I’m From Mugwort Essence (full review). It’s 100% mugwort and perfect for irritated skin, it absorbs quickly, adds an extra layer of hydration for me and keeps my skin feeling smooth too!

The Vichy Mineral 89 Daily Booster has been my serum of choice over the last few months now and I’ll confess I have had this before a few years ago when I wasn’t blogging as much so I am cheating a bit but it has really come into its own for me this year! I was previously a fan of the Vichy Aqualia Thermal but with alcohol denat quite high up on the list in that one I made the switch to this and haven’t looked back! It’s a really cooling gel serum that hydrates my skin and makes it plump!

Cerave Eye Repair Cream is another one I think I let fly under the radar. It’s a very simple lightweight cream, great for puffiness and dark circles and sits under makeup very well too, this is my backup as I repurchased straight away after finishing the first one I had!

Finally, I have a couple of facemasks to share! First up, the Dermalogica Hydro Masque Exfoliant* (full review) which delivers in bucketloads on hydration and gentle exfoliation. It contains snow mushroom for hydration and bamboo to exfoliate as well as cucumber extract (which it smells like) to soothe and it’s so effective! It only needs to be left on for 5 minutes and my face feels instantly refreshed, hydrated and exfoliated! And even better, it’s fine on my currently sensitive skin! I also want to give the Huxley Secret of Sahara Sleep Mask: Good Night a mention as it’s been in constant use since I got it! It contains Pricky pear seed oil, hyaluronic acid and centella asiatica and though it’s an overnight mask it is very lightweight and absorbs quickly but somehow my skin doesn’t dry out overnight. I wake up with hydrated, smooth and plump skin so this is a winner for me! It’s also very cooling and soothing!

dermalogica hydro masque exfoliant review

And that’s my round up of my favourite skin and bodycare discoveries this year! I think the Dermalogica mask is the only product that was actually released this year haha! I would love to know if we share any of the same favourite’s or what some of yours were! Let me know in the comments!
