Beauty Spend Report | April 2022

Another month, another beauty haul! I picked up a few new products and a couple of repurchases too so let’s get into it!

beauty spend report april 2022 daniellesbeautyblog

My first beauty buy of April was the CosRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence which was doing the rounds even more so on Instagram as it was on special offer on Amazon for £11.32. This had been on my radar for a while anyway but I took the plunge at that price as it’s usually £24!

Next up, Cult Beauty had 20% off during the month (or 25% off when spending over £120 but I was behaving myself!) so I picked up the Laneige Cica Sleeping Mask, another product I have been eyeing up for a while and I’ve just finished two other night creams so that was easily justified! I also got the new Olaplex No.9 Bond Protector Nourishing Hair Serum though I definitely don’t need any more hair products! This came to £43.45 instead of £55 which is just over 20% so not sure what happened there but I won’t complain!

I am still on the hunt for a new perfume, but, being picky, I went for an old one instead. I had a mini rollerball of this scent years ago and as it was on offer on Just my Look, I grabbed the 30ml of the Clean Classic Rain Eau de Parfum for £14.25 instead of £22.50. This is a really lightweight, fresh scent and I am keeping an eye on the website for the Skin scent to come into stock!

beauty haul april 2022

Boots had Fenty foundation on offer recently with £7.50 off so I repurchased the Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation for £22.50 instead of £30 (full review here) and the Eaze Drop Blurring Skin Tint for £19.50 instead of £27. Fenty put the prices up by a few pounds from the last time I purchased the soft matte foundation so I was happy to pick it up again with a bigger saving than 20% off and I’ve wanted to try the Eaze Drops for quite a while too!

fenty beauty foundation review

Lastly, I got my Liberty Beauty Drop box this month - £20 per month for quarterly beauty boxes with the £20 going into your Liberty account to spend on site and free delivery. I said in my last spend report that I was going to see what the contents were like then decide whether to continue or not and to me they were decidedly underwhelming so I cancelled! Included was the Frank Body Original Coffee Scrub, OTO Sleep Drops 10% CBD, Verden D’Orangerie Hand and Body Wash, L:A Bruket Body Lotion, Charlotte Mensah Manketti Hair Oil, Sisley Express Flower Gel Hydrating and Toning Mask and Vilhelm Parfumerie Basilico & Fellini Eau de Parfum. The first box I received also included a Frank Scrub/soak and while I love the brand this was just too similar for me, and I would have liked to have seen a cosmetics bag like they included last year (before I was a customer). I still think this is a great option if you shop from Liberty regularly or are planning to buy the advent calendars or a fancy perfume etc as it acts like a savings account but for me, I didn’t find their beauty offering the most inspiring as it’s quite curated and I prefer to shop around for discounts/more choice.

That being said, my £80 credit was burning a hole in my pocket, so I decided to spend it this month too. I got the Omorovicza Omoressence which I have wanted for a while (£68), the Wet Brush Original Detangler (£12) which is a repurchase (though I would have liked a different colour/pattern, but this is what I mean by curated selection – this was the only option!) and the Frank Body Smoothing AHA Body Lotion (£14.95). I was also able to take advantage of the 15% off for new customers which I wasn’t sure would work and because of my £80 credit included in my previous spend reports this came to 71p instead of £94.95

My total for this month came to £111.73 instead of £158.50 (not including the Liberty haul). I’m really going to try harder over the next few months to curb my beauty spending – famous last words - but I do plan to pick up the new NARS Light Reflecting foundation soon once I swatch a few shades! Let me know what beauty purchases you have made this month!

Product Empties #24

product empties review omorovicza skin accumax mabel + meg

It’s empties time again! And it’s a big one so let’s delve right in!

skincare empties January labs Dermalogica origins dr jart

Skincare
January Labs Restorative Tonic Mist
My number one favourite facial mist and one I am absolutely gutted is not being stocked on Cult Beauty anymore! I talked about it more in a recent forever repurchased post and I really hope they get another UK retailer to sell from as I can’t be without it! Its calming, hydrating and works so well with my acne prone skin – I have one back up left thank god!

Mabel + Meg Lumilixir Vitamin C and Serum and Hyaluronic Acid
One of my favourite serums and another one that features in the post I linked above! I usually alternate more expensive hyaluronic acid serums with more affordable but I can really feel the difference with this. A little goes a long way and it spreads so easily over my face ready for skincare/makeup. It brightens and helps with pigmentation and is just a general all-rounder! Will repurchase once I finish a few other serums!

Laneige Cream Skin Refiner
This is a really lovely product I used as a toner, it’s a very liquidy hydrating product and prepped my skin really well for its next skincare steps! Will repurchase in the future!

Dr Jart Ceramidin
One of my favourite moisturisers, this is a must have! This is perfect for morning or night, full of ceramides and hyaluronic acid and works wonders on my combo skin! It’s amazing under makeup too, no primer needed! Have repurchased the full size!

Origins Clear Improvement active charcoal mask
I’ve been on a bit of a mask emptying frenzy so there are quite a few to get through! This really helps with clogged pores and blemishes and never strips my skin! Have repurchased the full size!

Origins Original Skin retexturizing mask with rose clay
Probably my favourite face mask of all time, this gently exfoliates while working on problem areas making my skin less congested and calmer! Already repurchased the full size!

Dermalogica Intensive Moisture Cleanser*
This felt nice and worked well as a second cleanse or morning cleanser on my skin without stripping it but I much prefer the special cleansing gel to this so not a repurchase for me!

Dermalogica Precleanse Balm*
While this is a lovely feeling balm and takes my makeup off easily it stings the living daylights out of my eyes so I wouldn’t repurchase! The pre-cleanse oil is much better and doesn’t have this issue! Both of the above products feature in my Dermalogica Winter Care Kit post!

Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream
Drunk Elephant is a brand I don’t quite get the hype with even though a lot of people seem to love them! I’ve went through a few minis of this and some other products now and while they are nice products they don’t make me want to repurchase as I don’t think they do anything special! This feels lightweight and is a gel cream formula so cooling but I don’t find it amazingly hydrating so not a repurchase for me!

Fresh Rose Face mask
This is the second mini I have gone through of this and I originally think I was a little unimpressed but this time round I have come to appreciate its effects! It sinks in quickly (my skin literally drinks it up) and once rinsed off my skin looks glowy and more plump and feels hydrated. I don’t think I would repurchase the full size as its pricey for what I think are short term benefits but if I get another mini I will enjoy it again!

Omorovicza Thermal Cleansing Balm
One of my favourite cleansing balms! This is a rich black oily balm that feels super luxurious on the skin, removes makeup easily and makes skin feel calm and clarified! I talk about it more in an old five things I’m loving post from three years ago where the full size was £7 cheaper wow inflation! I will repurchase in the future! With a discount lol

Omorovicza Deep Cleansing Mask
Really nice lightweight mask that clarifies my skin but I prefer the Origins ones I talked about above so not a repurchase for me! I think if I had a bigger sample this would be a firm favourite though but obviously its pricey so I am staying away!

Dr Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Extra Strength Daily Peel
Have went through quite a few of these now and I love them! They work great to exfoliate, even though they are extra strength I don’t get any tingling but my skin does look clearer and more even! I won’t repurchase as I have a lot of other exfoliation products on the go right now but would reconsider in the future!

bodycare empties reviews vaseline herbivore nivea soap and glory

Bodycare
Vaseline Intensive Care Non-Greasy Lotion
An old favourite, this sinks in quickly, moisturises my skin and smells really light and clean! Have already repurchased!

Nivea Caring Shower Gel Sun Original Scent
This is a very nostalgic scent and I really enjoyed this but have repurchased one of the cream shower gels for now!

Soap and Glory Mist you Madly Body Spray
My absolute favourite Soap and Glory scent and I panicked when I thought they had discontinued it! It seems they have just repackaged phew and I have repurchased already!

Soap and Glory Smoothie Star Hand Food
Not a fan of this scent but love hand food and I am already using the original pink scent as I had a backup! Great formula!

Soap and Glory The Righteous Butter body moisturiser
One of my favourite body moisturisers as its so rich! I love this and a little goes a long way! Currently using up a few other moisturisers but I will repurchase in the future!

Jurlique Softening Body Lotion Rose
I liked the light rose scent of this and how lightweight it was! No plans to repurchase any time soon though!

Herbivore Jasmine Glowing Hydration Body Oil
Really enjoyed this body oil, it felt very rich and hydrating and I enjoyed the scent! Little bit pricey for the volume but it did reignite my love of body oils so I repurchased a Versed one instead but would consider this in the future!

haircare empties tresemme sachajuan

Haircare
TRESemme Volumizing Dry Shampoo
The last of my stock from Canada! I am gutted as I don’t think I can get this in the UK? If you are able to get it, its very lightweight, smells good and leaves no white cast! Does a great job of letting me get an extra day out of my greasy hair too! Would repurchase if I could!

Sachajuan Hair Repair
I didn’t mind the scent of this and it made my hair feel soft but it isn’t a patch on the likes of Olaplex in my opinion as a treatment so I wouldn’t repurchase! It also contains dimethicone which correct me if I’m wrong but I think it coats hair and can tend to make it greasier quicker!

makeup empties revlon colour stay foundation review

Makeup
Revlon Colorstay Foundation for Combo/Oily Skin
This is my favourite affordable foundation! Its long-lasting and full coverage which is exactly what I look for and I have already repurchased!

skin accumax review

Miscellaneous
Advanced Nutrition Programme Skin Accumax
These also featured in my last empties post as I started taking them after coming off the pill, things were going well but after these ran out I went without for about 2 weeks and my skin is having a major freak out! I stocked up and have started taking them again but they are pretty expensive so I will really need to see some good results over the next few months of use to see if it is worthwhile for me!

That’s it for another empties! I’ve actually accumulated quite a few products since I wrote this up too so will have another one next month I think! Let me know if you have tried any of the above products and what you thought!

P.S. Sorry for the ridiculous amount of exclamation points in this post!

Current Skincare | Cleansers #1

current cleansers

Eek, it's been so long guys! I'm sorry I'm not as active on here anymore but I really want to get what I've prewritten posted so here we go!  I’m starting a new series here on the blog with the skincare I’m using in different categories so first up its cleansers! These are the cleansers I was happily using away at while I was at home. It’s not actually all of my cleansers, I do have a few others but I didn’t feel like I used them enough to be able to talk about them fully and there were already about ten here! I didn’t actually realise I had that many on constant rotation but what can I say - I like a clean face and I also like options! I’ll hopefully get an updated one up soon as I have a few different cleansers here with me in Canada and some are old favourites I haven’t used in a while!

nivea cleansers review

The First Cleanse
Are you sick of hearing me talk about this yet? It’s my absolute favourite for a first cleanse as it’s so creamy and gets the majority of my makeup off! I have been using this for years and don’t think I will ever stop! I’m not really into micellar waters which I know most people use hence why there is none in this post but this baby is a firm favourite and constant repurchase for me!

This isn’t in the main picture because I was aiming this post at facial cleansers but I can’t talk about a first cleanse without the best eye makeup remover! If you like to cake your lashes in waterproof mascara and pile on the eye makeup like me then you need this in your life! It’s a bio phase formula and the oil works to break down waterproof eye makeup all while being super gentle, not stinging eyes or leaving a fuzzy film over them! This is a constant repurchase too and one I talk more about here!

oil and balm cleanser review

The Second Cleanse
Burt’s Bees Cleansing Oil with Coconut and Argan Oil*
This is the newest cleanser to my stash and one I talked about originally in this Burt’s Bees post! It’s a 100% natural oil that feels lovely and luxurious when rubbing into the face and I love the scent – it’s not overpowering at all. I find my eyes are a little sensitive to this but nowhere near as much as say the Burt’s Bees Soap Bark and Chamomile cleansing cream. This leaves no oily residue on my face either; it just leaves it feeling really soft and supple and makeup free! Its £16.99 for 117ml!

Another 100% natural product this time in balm form and one I only actually picked up because I was under the threshold for a Cult Beauty GWP one time! Anyway, I’m glad I did put it in my basket because this is so soothing and perfect if my skin is feeling a little stressed or sensitive. It leaves a little residue after wiping off with a facecloth but I don’t mind this and sometimes will pop some extra on and leave overnight if I’ve got a rough patch of skin – it’s a multiuse balm and can even be added to hot water and honey to soothe a sore throat though I haven’t tried that! I love the scent too and my mum always steals this! It’s £12.50 for 50ml.

If I could only pick one (second) cleanser to repurchase this would be it! I have gone through countless jars of this and despite its pretty high price point I will continue to do so because I love it! This is so luxurious and soothing, and I find the scent so relaxing. It removes the rest of my makeup so well and makes my skin feel lovely and soft and ready for the next step in my routine. A jar lasts me ages and I always like to grab it when it’s on offer – I got this 50ml jar in a set of 3 for £38 (and then got 20% off too when M&S did an offer!).

Another luxury pick and one I wouldn’t have thought to try had I not won it in a Cult Beauty Instagram competition! It’s a black oily balm made with Hungarian moor mud and thermal waters that works to draw out impurities. I find it very gentle on my skin and a tiny bit goes a long way with this balm! It comes with a little scoop to get the product out and I then warm it up between my fingers and massage into my face. After removing, I’m left with smooth, clean, hydrated skin! At £48, this isn’t cheap but I will definitely be making a repurchase when I finish this!

I got this in a Cult Beauty GWP and I love it – seriously what is it with me and ridiculously expensive cleansers! The oil feels so silky and almost warms up as I massage it in feeling like I’m getting a mini facial. It smells amazing, gets the last of my makeup off really well and makes my skin feel soft and nourished. It’s also 100% natural and costs £64 for 125ml.

morning cleansers

The Morning Cleanse
This had been on my wishlist for the longest time before it finally came back into stock last year and it quickly became a firm favourite! It contains 5% glycolic acid so helps my skin along in the morning by giving it a gentle exfoliation and leaving it looking a lot brighter! It also contains nourishing oils, glycerin, aloe and hyaluronic acid so doesn’t strip my skin at all and leaves it feeling smooth which I love. It also made it into my Best Beauty Discoveries of 2016! It’s £18 for 135ml and was one of the first things I purchased skincare wise in Canada because I cant bear to be without it - I think it was $24!

I snagged this just before Christmas in the sales in a set Deciem had on offer (I was buying it for the CAIS but this was a happy surprise!). The first time I used this I was a little put off by the smell (It’s a little like day old cold coffee) but I soon got over it and I reach for it regularly in the morning – it’s not intended to remove makeup! It promises to clean dead skin cells without peeling, remove dirt and clean pores intensely. It also helps remove the skin's natural oils gently to help the skin naturally produce more oils. It targets all forms of build-up, blemishes, congestion and impurities and my skin loves it! Its £21 for 90ml.

I got this little gem in a build your own Latest in Beauty box before Christmas and it’s a beautiful cleansing cream! I actually though my tube was a full size as the sample Latest in Beauty had was so generous! This feels really gentle on the skin and I love that it has rose hip oil in it as its one of my favourite skincare ingredients! It’s got a really gentle rose scent and this leaves my skin feeling really hydrated on days when my skin feels drier than normal. The full size which comes in a tub is £38 for 200ml.

I should also mention that I usually use all three of my morning cleansers with my Foreo Luna for a little bit of a deeper clean and exfoliation and all three work perfectly with it!

Five Things I’m Loving | March 2017

five products im loving omorovicza mario badescu nivea foreo klorane

Probably not the first time you’ve heard it this month but I can’t believe its March! This year is absolutely flying and I have a few products to share today that as you can tell by the title, I’m loving!

omorovicza thermal cleansing balm review

I won this last year in a Cult Beauty Instagram competition (lovely feeling!) and it sat in my collection for a few months while I tried to get some other cleansers finished. Then I thought life is too short, open all the cleansers and I’m so glad I did as it’s become one of my favourites! It’s a black oily balm made with Hungarian moor mud and thermal waters that works to draw out impurities and I use it as my second cleanse to remove the last traces of my makeup. I find it very gentle on my skin and a tiny bit goes a long way with this balm! I use the little scoop to get a bit of product out then warm it up between my fingers and massage into my face. I’ll then use a damp face cloth to remove and overall I’m left with smooth, clean, hydrated skin! At £48, this isn’t cheap but I will definitely be making a repurchase when I finish this – I alternate this with my Emma Hardie Moringa cleansing balm and both have lasted ages so are well worth the money for that and how they perform on my skin!

foreo luna play review

Another little Cult Beauty gem – I got this in a GWP towards the end of last year and having never tried a manual cleanser before I didn’t use it straight away as I was worried it would break me out. Curiosity got the better of me and I tried it out one morning and haven’t looked back since! Its battery operated, non-chargeable, waterproof and as you can see from the close up has two cleansing zones – an ultra-fine one for normal areas and a thicker one for more congested areas. I tend to use the ultra-fine zone all over my face then concentrate the thicker touch zone on my nose and chin area. It uses T sonic pulsations to enhance the efficiency of your cleanser and I have completely fallen in love with this little device and can’t imagine my morning cleanse without it now! At £29, it’s good for 100 uses and it’s recommended you use it for a minute each cleanse. It’s hygienic, gentle and gives a non-irritating exfoliation and I’ve include a photo of my favourite morning cleansers to use it with! I will definitely be buying a full size chargeable one when the battery runs out!

best cleansers to use with a forea luna play

I reviewed this just after Christmas but it’s nearly finished and I just had to mention it again as I’m very fickle with conditioner and apart from the OUAI one I haven’t found one I want to repurchase since this! I always brush my hair before I wash it and pat it dry with a towel instead of rubbing it to try and minimise how many tats I will inevitably be left with but I always have to spend so much time brushing my hair out because the tangles just come out of nowhere! That was until I tried this! It’s so gentle and I know every time I brush my hair after using it I won’t get any giant knots caught in my brush because they are just not there! It has a really inoffensive scent and is just a dream to use, I can’t wait to pick up a bigger size!

I got this in a set with the Aloe Herbs and Rosewater facial spray for Christmas and while I love it too, I wanted to talk about the Drying Lotion because it’s been amazing recently on any breakouts I’ve been having! It’s made with a blend of calamine and salicylic acid and where I usually find spot treatments dry the spot and skin around it out (all great until it’s a flaky mess with makeup over the next day) this works on my skin to dry out the spot, all while being soothing and not drying on the skin around it. It works really well to settle down my breakouts and they don’t last for as long, hooray! The instructions say don’t shake solution and use a cotton ear bud to reach the pink sediment at the bottom then dab onto any spots and it has quite a medicated smell which I love!

mario badescu drying lotion review

I was sent three of these before Christmas and this one in particular is my current hand bag essential! I go through hand cream so quickly but Nivea is by far my favourite as I love how soft it makes my hands feel. The scent and how quickly it absorbs as well as the fact I don’t feel the need to reapply 20 times a day are also plus points! This is the 75ml so will last ages but doesn’t take up a huge amount of room in my bag! Love!

That’s five products I’m currently loving! Let me know if you have tried any of these before and what you thought of them!
