Top Haircare Essentials #2 | Must Have Picks from Living Proof, Kerastase, and JVN Hair

haircare essentials living proof kerastase jvn

I did a post like this back in 2020 but thought it was time for a little update! I still use and love products from OAUI as well as my silk pillowcase and microfibre hair towel but I haven’t been using much Olaplex recently. I have long, straight, dark brown hair with greasy roots and dry ends prone to breakage and this is what works for me!

Instead of treatments I need to leave in my hair before washing like Olaplex No.3, I’ve been opting for leave in treatments, my favourite of which is the Living Proof Triple Bond Complex Hair Strengthener RRP £42 | $61 CAD. I was originally sent this in PR but have since repurchased myself as I love it so much! It’s a weekly treatment that you apply to damp hair after washing and, like I said, leave in. It’s a concentrated formula that works to construct new bonds within the hair to help strengthen it as well as protect it and visibly reduce the look of split ends. It also offers heat protection up to 232˚C to help prevent future breakage which is something I always look for in a leave in product as I use heat on my hair. It’s silicone-free, with a serum consistency and leaves my hair feeling protected, smooth and manageable with a good shine and I have noticed my ends looking way healthier with less split ends even when my hair is overdue a trim! Read my original review here!

Another product sent to me in PR that I have since repurchased repeatedly is the Living Proof PhD Advanced Clean Dry Shampoo RRP £27 | $45 CAD. I had been using the original PhD Dry Shampoo which I reviewed here and still switch between the two but the advanced version is slightly more sophisticated and just amazing! This delivers results comparable to a rinse-out shampoo and works by using fast-absorbing powders to soak up oil, sweat, and odour. Scalp is left balanced and hair is left soft, shiny and manageable. I can go for longer than I’d like to say without washing my hair when I use this and my hair looks just as good as if I’d washed it. There is no white cast or residue and my hair feels manageable and actually looks clean! While it’s pricey, I find I use less than drugstore dry shampoo and it has a fresh citrus scent.

Sticking with the theme of PR and I have the boujiest hair treatment I have ever used - the Nutritive 8h Magic Nourishing Overnight Serum RRP £47 | $84 CAD*. This is a luxurious overnight serum formulated with plant-based proteins and niacinamide that you apply to hair and it works overnight to help hydrate, condition and replenish dry hair. It smells divine (please make a scent Kerastase!) and my hair drinks this up. It helps to detangle hair and protect from pillow friction and my hair looks shiny the next day as well as my ends looking less dry and frazzled. I can use this a few nights in a row without it weighing down my hair or making it greasier quicker! This is definitely a little “extra” but so good! See my full review of the Kerastase Nutritive range here!

Lastly, and the newest to me product out of the four I have here is the JVN Hair Complete Pre-Wash Scalp & Hair Strengthening Treatment Oil £28 | $43.50 CAD which I have been using since Christmas! It’s a pre-shampoo hair treatment that works to nourish, hydrate and cleanse the scalp. I use it 1-2 times per week and leave in for 10 minutes or more before washing my hair as normal. It contains rosemary extract to aid scalp circulation supporting hair follicles in the growth phase, turmeric oil, a natural anti-inflammatory that helps reduce redness and irritation and hemisqualane to improve hair health and strength. This has been working well making my scalp less irritated and I notice less flakes. I haven’t noticed a huge difference in hair growth but I am happy with how my hair is looking and feeling right now. My hair is shiny and my breakage isn’t as noticeable though I definitely am due for a trim soon!

I can’t recommend each of these enough if you have room in your routine for them! Let me know what haircare you have been loving recently!

Dry Shampoo Showdown #2

A couple of years ago I reviewed the dry shampoos I owned at the time and I thought it was time for a slight update (although you will see one repeat performance!). Dry shampoo is an every couple of days essential for me, I’ve got greasy roots and my hair is long and fine meaning it can look limp if it’s not freshy washed so dry shampoo is a lifesaver! Here’s what I’m currently using up!

dry shampoo review batiste vo5 tresemme Bardot

Batiste Dry Shampoo and De-Frizz

It had been a few years since I tried Batiste when I decided to pick up this bottle in its new packaging! Then once I used it, I was reminded why I stopped buying it. I thought with the promise of the invisible formula they would have updated their formulation but sadly not. I find this to leave a white cast on my dark hair, it barely soaks up any oil and the scent is very old fashioned. My hair is not massively frizzy but I do get some flyaway’s and I didn’t notice a difference with this. I know lots of people swear by Batiste but for me it’s nowhere near good enough!

VO5 Refresh Dry Shampoo

Probably my most repurchased dry shampoo ever (seriously, search VO5 in my search bar) and this one also featured in the first instalment of this blog series! It’s got a fresh, clean scent, leaves absolutely no white cast and easily gives me an extra day out of my hair making it look less greasy and much fresher! It doesn’t take too much effort rubbing in the spray either as its basically transparent! It pains me to say I think this has been discontinued as its out of stock or ridiculously priced online although sometimes I see it in random grocery shops. I hope they bring it back as it was such a great dry shampoo and so affordable too!

TRESemme Day 2 Between Washes Volumizing Dry Shampoo

When I lived in Canada, I went through so many bottles of the TRESemme dry shampoo so when I got home I was gutted when I couldn’t find it! Eventually I saw this version which is slightly different and though not *quite* as good, still worth a go if you are looking for a dry shampoo on a budget. Similarly to the VO5, it has a very fresh, light scent and doesn’t leave a white cast. I don’t find it does a lot for volume though despite its claims though I do have long, fine hair so not much does!

Bardot Dry Shampoo

Lastly, I have the Bardot dry shampoo, and it’s another one I *think* may have been discontinued sadly! This is my second bottle of this and while the RRP is £19 I would never pay that for a dry shampoo. I would be bankrupt at the rate I go through them! I got mine for £2.50 when MMCL did a huge sale a while back and it was money well spent! It’s another translucent formulation, it soaks up my oils nicely and also leaves my hair looking like it’s got a bit more oomph! The only thing I’m not keen on is the floral scent but throughout the day it becomes less strong!

Overall, the V05 wins for me, it’s an old favourite and ticks all the boxes! If you’d like to read the last post in this series, you can do so here! I definitely need to revisit the Klorane dry shampoo soon! What is your favourite dry shampoo?

Forever Repurchased #9

Good morning! I’ve been doing some shopping recently so thought I’d quickly talk through the repurchases that have made the cut for me!

tigi small talk OUAI North Bondi review

If you have read my blog for any length of time you may know what a huge fan I am of OUAI! They are hands down my favourite haircare brand and a few years ago they released some perfumes of the signature scents of their products! I’ve just finished my original North Bondi which I got back last summer and immediately repurchased it as I am obsessed with the scent! I am no good at explaining scents and it’s such a personal thing anyway as they smell different on everyone but here are the notes for anyone interested and it smells like the wave spray and leave in conditioner:
Top Notes: Bergamot, Apple Blossom, Raspberry, Italian Lemon
Heart Notes: Rose de Mai, Jasmine, Violet
Base Notes: Patchouli, Sandalwood, White Musk
Trusty old Look Fantastic also had 20% off so I may have treated myself to Melrose Place too hehe. I don’t find this the longest lasting perfume I’ve ever had but that might be due to the fact I can barely smell it off myself though I always get compliments when I wear it J

This is one of my most long term hair loves but I’m not sure it’s ever featured on my blog before! I think this may be my 3rdor 4thbottle and I know I definitely left one behind in Canada and had to chuck an old one I found when I got home! It’s a thickening cream you add to damp hair which doesn’t weigh my fine hair down at all, gives it more body through the ends, hydrates and smooths it and you guessed it, makes it look thicker! It smells like blueberries and I am so glad to have it back in my life and I am already noticing I am picking my split ends less! I would really recommend shopping round for it as it’s always on offer, I actually got this in Home Bargains for £4.99, they have such a great hair section!

Did anyone else take advantage of the Boots offer the other week when this was £10? Again, it’s been a while since this was in my collection but I am so excited to reintroduce it as I used to love it! It’s the perfect gentle exfoliant to use daily and with consistent use I always used to see improvements in my skin texture and leftover scarring.

I’ve received these previously through PR but you know it’s good when you continuously repurchase them yourself! I’ve been going through hand cream at a rate of knots at the minute and couldn’t wait to get these back in my collection after using up some ones I had in my stash already! They are lightweight but so hydrating and they sink in quickly and smell so fresh! Can’t recommend them enough!

I finally found some Tresemme Dry Shampoo! This was my go to brand when I lived in Canada as it was so affordable, left no white cast and give my hair some added volume! Hoping it’s the same formula here, I’ll be sure to report back!

I’d love to know if you have been making any purchases recently? I was so good for so long but have went a bit crazy recently! Still waiting on a few to be delivered then I might do a round up haul post!

Dry Shampoo Showdown

dry shampoo showdown vo5 klorane soap and glory
If you have oily hair like me you’ll know what a pain in the arse it is to wash it one day only for it to look like you’ve poured grease over it the next! Dry shampoo is a complete life saver for me as 1. I’m too lazy to wash my hair every day and 2. It’s not good for your hair to be washed that much anyway! I wash my hair every other day but these four dry shampoos have been making it look a lot more presentable in-between washes! Here’s what I think about them!

VO5 Refresh Me Quick Dry Shampoo RRP £3.50 is my old favourite and has been for the longest time now, I always go back to it! When I can find it that is! I usually get mine for £1.99 in Savers but I see that Boots have recently reintroduced it again though they currently only have the Plump it Up version. Nonetheless, if you’re on a budget or just go through dry shampoo at a ridiculous rate you should definitely check this out! The scent is really fresh and clean, it leaves no white cast and it takes the grease out of my hair quickly and easily without too much effort rubbing in!

I was recently sent the Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk for brown to dark hair* RRP £8 and the Klorane Dry Shampoo with Nettle for oily hair* RRP £8 in a generous care package personally picked out for my, you guessed it, dark and oily hair! I have been blown away by these two, where other dry shampoos take the grease out of my hair they can sometimes leave it looking dull and lifeless a few hours into the day but not these. They somehow manage to add a bit of lift to my hair as well as shine which I thought was impossible on my second day hair! I also feel like I need to use less product as they are so effective. The scent is clean and light and though they are more on the expensive side, I think they are 100% worth it! Escentual frequently do offers of their French Pharmacy products too so they are more affordable then. Read more about Klorane here and see my French Pharmacy favourites here!

Klorane is available from independent pharmacies, Boots, Escentual and Look Fantastic!

This is the newest dry shampoo to my stash and in my opinion the best smelling! I love anything Original Pink scented and the bottle doesn’t lie – the touch release technology is amazing and I get gorgeous whiffs of this throughout the day when I ruffle my hair! As a dry shampoo alone, it’s not my favourite, it takes the grease out of my hair but it still it can get a little too lank for my liking as the day goes on. Saying that, I would still be tempted to repurchase if they brought out a Mist You Madly fragranced version!

*denotes a PR sample that was sent to me. All opinions are my own. See my full disclosure here.

What’s your favourite dry shampoo? The OUAI Dry Shampoo foam is next on my hit list!

Product Empties #15

product empties reviews

OK, OK, I know I say it every time but I really didn’t mean to have this many empties again! They just get away from me so easily and before I know it I can barely fit them on my sticky back marble board! I’ll do my best to keep it short and sweet and will link any full reviews of the products I’m talking about too!

mint skin mud mask vichy serum dna renewal review

Skincare
Vichy Aqualia Thermal Serum
Probably my favourite serum ever, this is a constant repurchase for me! It’s lightweight, hydrating and sinks in quickly, I love it and you can hear more about it in this post!

Caudalie Eau de Beaute Beauty Elixir
I’ve went through a few bottles of this but I think recently I’ve been using mists that have more benefits for my skin. Saying that, this is lightweight and feels refreshing and I love the scent but I don’t think I will be repurchasing any time soon.

Papaya Gold Paw Paw Moisturising Balm
I bought this mistakenly thinking it was the cult Dr Paw Paw balm and I generally don’t like Vaseline/petroleum jelly type products which is what this feels like with the addition of Manuka Honey. I only used this on my lips overnight and it did a good job of keeping them hydrated but I probably won’t repurchase as I already have so many other lip products.

DNA Renewal Eye Renewal
I got this in a Cult Beauty GWP ages ago and I absolutely loved it! It lasted me ages too! It’s a lightweight cream that sinks in straightaway and kept my eye area hydrated. It was perfect for both day and night use and I was gutted when it finished! At £44, I won’t be repurchasing straight away but it is definitely a product I will come back to!

Goldfaden MD Bright Eyes Dark Circle Radiance Concentrate
Another Cult Beauty GWP special (can you tell I love those offers!) this only lasted me about a week but it felt a little thicker that the DNA Eye Renewal though still lightweight enough for day use. I don’t have massively dark circles under my eyes so can’t say much for its claims but again I would repurchase in the future though out of the two, I preferred the DNA Renewal!

Mint Skin Mud Detox and Hydrating Clay masks*
I have a couple of these masks here and I absolutely love them! I have a full review on both here but in short the detox mud worked wonder on my nose blackheads and the hydrating mask is perfect for the dehydrated skin I have round my nose! Both are gentle yet effective and I highly recommend them! I have some more to use up and I’m keeping some past for a wedding I have in March because I love the results they give!

loreal klorane ouai shampoo review

Haircare
L’Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Clay Re-balancing Shampoo
This was a very popular shampoo when it came out a while ago and I generally jump on anything that promises to help with greasy hair! Overall, I really liked the shampoo and I do regularly buy L’Oreal shampoos but this didn’t make my hair any less greasier. It did smell lovely and made my hair shiny so I would repurchase. I also have the shampoo and clay hair mask in this range so they will probably pop up soon too – conditioners take me ages to finish!

L’Oreal Elvive Fibrology Thickening Shampoo
It was a good month for finishing shampoo and here we have another L’Oreal one! Again, I really like these shampoos and the scent of them but as I have such long hair, volume doesn’t come easy for me. This didn’t weigh it down or make it go any greasier than normal so I would repurchase! I will however always miss the L’Oreal Elvive Nutrigloss Light shampoo that was discontinued!

Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk*
This is a lovely dry shampoo, it smells so fresh! My hair always looked shiny rather than greasy when I used this on second day hair and though it’s a little dearer than what I would normally pay for a dry shampoo at £8, it’s often included in Escentual’s French pharmacy 1/3 off promotion and 3 or 2’s at Boots so I would repurchase when on offer! Full review here!

OUAI Treatment Masque
I got a pack of these in another GWP from Cult Beauty (can you tell I’ve been getting through my samples this month!) and having loved everythingelse I’ve tried from Jen Atkin’s range, this did not disappoint! It made my hair feel lovely and soft as well as smooth and I got two uses out of this satchet! I’m not completely sure if I’d repurchase though as I love the conditioner too and it does pretty much the same job and I always forget about treatments!

soap and glory lush nivea review

Bodycare
Soap and Glory The Scrub of your Life
This is probably my second favourite scrub from Soap and Glory (Pulp Friction always being my favourite!). I love the scent of this and though it doesn’t lather as much as Pulp Friction, with the help of some exfoliating gloves it does a great job of removing my tan! Will repurchase!

Sass Perfect Me Skin Concentrate
I’m only really realising this now but this is actually an intimate body product! I just used it on my legs after waxing or epilating and I loved it! My hairs grow back quite fine anyway because I have been getting waxed for years but this made my legs feel so smooth and I think the hairs grew back even slower! It’s scented but not very strongly and has a pump while the product itself is a gel like texture. I got this in a beauty box but I would definitely repurchase and try it on my bikini line too next time!

Lush Snow Fairy Shower Gel
My old favourite Snow Fairy, probably the most childish candy floss scented product ever but I love it! This is actually from Christmas last year, how bad is that? I have a few more to get through from Christmas just past too, its limited edition but I will repurchase when its back later this year!

Lush Rose Jam Shower Gel
This was the first time I’d tried the infamous Rose Jam shower gel and it smells lovely! It felt moisturising too and I actually get a lot of use out of these mini 100g shower gels! Would repurchase!

Balance Me Rose Otto Hand Cream
Not a fan of this at all, it felt greasy, took ages to absorb even when I only put a little on and I ended up only using this at night time because of this! The scent was OK but I would not repurchase this.

Nivea Age Defying Hand Cream
Now this I would repurchase! Nivea do my favourite hand creams ever, they smell amazing, absorb quickly and make my hands so soft as well as being affordable! I have a full review of their new look hand creams here!

Burt’s Bees Coconut Foot Cream
This is super sticky and takes a bit of work to apply but I absolutely love it! It smells lovely and works so well on rough skin on my heels and bottom of my feet. Would repurchase!

nars sheer glow beauty blender review

Makeup
NARS Sheer Glow
This is such a beautiful foundation! It has a medium/full coverage so it’s definitely not sheer and it doesn’t have a glowy finish either. I actually didn’t like this the first time I used it, I didn’t think it lasted well on my oily skin at all and it wore off really easily on my chin. After using it a few more times though I grew to really like it, it evens out my complexion and lasts all day now with a few powder touch-ups during the day. I am however glad to be finished this! I think it’s about two years old though it has a 24 month expiry date so it’s fine. I will definitely repurchase in the future as this comes quite close to my all-time favourite Estee Lauder Double Wear but I want to finish up a few other foundations beforehand!

SEVENTEEN Falsifeye HD Mascara*
This is a lovely mascara for a natural look. It gives a lot of separation and length to my lashes but I probably won’t repurchase because I rarely wear mascara that isn’t waterproof!

Beauty Blender
I am obsessed with Beauty Blenders, they give the best finish for me and I wouldn’t be without one now! £16 is a lot to spend on a sponge but Beauty Blenders definitely feel the softest to me and give the best bounce making it so easy to apply my foundation evenly! They also last a good 6 months for me washing it daily! Will repurchase!

Congratulations if you got through all that! I already have half a box full of empties I’ve acquired since taking the photos for this post so that will be up sometime next month! Let me know what you have been finishing recently or if you’ve tried anything I’ve talked about!

Introduction to Klorane

Klorane oat milk range shampoo conditioner dry shampoo review

Recently I was sent a few products from Klorane to try and after using them for the last month I’m ready to give my thoughts! Having never tried the brand before, I was excited to see a shampoo, conditioner and dry shampoo included as these three are my most used hair products!

I was sent the oat milk range which is suitable for frequent use on all hair types – for reference I have long hair with greasy roots and dry ends! First up, the Klorane shampoo with oat milk* and my first impression of this was that it was a lot more liquidy (is that a word?) than I am used to! I always do two washes and I found that this didn’t lather up much with the first wash but did a little more with the second. It contains sodium laureth sulphate (not to be confused with sodium lauryl suphate), a milder cleansing agent so this could be why! It cleans my hair beautifully and leaves it with a gorgeous shine! I love how gentle this feels and how it doesn’t overload my hair with product!

I maybe should have talked about the conditioner first because as a reverse washer, I rinse my hair and use this before shampooing! Like the shampoo, the Klorane conditioner with oat milk* is super gentle and the star of the show for me! It promises to protect and detangle and I have never found a detangling product that works for me until this! As the original Tatty Bogle (top marks if you get that reference!), every time I use this I can’t get over how much more manageable my hair is and I can now actually get a brush through it without ripping hair out! Like the shampoo, it doesn’t overload or weigh my hair down, it just makes it lovely and clean and easy to manage! Both products are also suitable for children so great all-rounder’s if there are a lot of people in your household and they have a really gentle light scent!

Lastly, I was sent the Klorane Dry Shampoo with oat milk* and we all know dry shampoo is a staple in my routine (and most peoples I think!). This has a really familiar scent to me though I’m not sure where I know if from but it smells really fresh. It’s recommended to spray 10 inches from your hair then leave for two minutes before brushing the powder out. I usually rub it in a little before brushing and the powder disappears quickly leaving my hair refreshed and clean looking so I can get an extra day without washing! The dry shampoo contains silica and starch as well as beta cyclodextrine which all work together to absorb oils from the hair and they do a great job! If it’s good enough for Margot Robbie it’s good enough for me!

Overall, a lovely range of hair products and I have a new obsession in the conditioner so if you have tatty hair that you find hard to detangle you need to try this! Have you tried anything from Klorane before?

Klorane is available at Boots, Escentual.com and lookfantastic.com!

Forever Repurchased #1 Highstreet/Drugstore Edition

drugstore highstreet repurchases soap and glory nivea garnier vo5 no7 revlon

I do empties posts often enough now I thought I would put together a post featuring some old favourites of mine that are repurchased again and again and I can’t see myself switching up anytime soon!

drugstore highstreet repurchases soap and glory nivea garnier vo5 no7 revlon

First off we have my favourite makeup removal team, I always do a double cleanse at night and to begin with I will take a few cotton pads and use my Nivea Lotion for normal skin to dot on my face and gently remove my makeup. The Soft & Pure Cotton wool cosmetic pads are so absorbent and the Nivea is really creamy and works well to remove the bulk of my makeup before I go for my second cleanse (where I usually use a balm or oil cleanser).

soft & pure cotton wool cosmetic pads

To remove my eye makeup which daily includes eyeshadow and a lot of waterproof mascara, I use an oil based eye makeup remover, my favourite being the Garnier Express 2 in 1 Eye Make Up Remover. This is so gentle, it doesn’t sting my eyes and most importantly, it’s very effective at removing my eye makeup without me having to rub or drag my eyes.

Next up we have a few makeup repurchases including my favourite daily foundation. If you like affordable high coverage with a good range of shades for those with paler skin then Revlon ColourStay foundation is your guy! It was included in my empties post last week and I mentioned then that I started panicking recently when I could find my shade in any Boots stores for weeks and thought they had discontinued it! I finally found it and bought two which should keep me going for a few months! I used to favour applying this with my fingers as it tends to set quite quickly so I like to use the warmth from my fingers to help spread it evenly but recently I have really been enjoying using a Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge to apply it! My sponge is on its last legs though so I am thinking of upgrading to a Beauty Blender soon!

drugstore highstreet repurchsases makeup revlon colourstay soap and glory kick ass no7 powder

I took advantage of the 3 for 2 offer on make up in Boots recently to restock my favourite concealer, Soap and Glory Kick Ass Concealer in Light, as I've hit pan and I use it daily so it won’t be long before it runs out! I have a full post on this concealer and why I love it so much already here but in short, it's creamy, has a peach tone to correct under eye circles and a yellow tone for discolouration as well as a mini powder to set and is the perfect size for handbags. I love it!

I also repurchased my favourite pressed powder – No7 Perfect Light Pressed Powder in Translucent and used a £3 off No7 voucher while doing so (gotta love Boots offers). This is amazing at stopping shine on my oily t zone and I never hear it getting raved about! With other powders I have to top up at lunchtime and sometimes feel my makeup can look a little cakey afterwards but with this I just apply in the morning and that’s me to the evening! It’s amazing!

drugstore highstreet repurchases vo5 refresh me quick dry shampoo

Last but not least, another product I feared had been discontinued, my beloved VO5 Refresh Me Quick Dry Shampoo! The scent of this is so fresh and clean and even better, it leaves no white cast! I’m so happy to see this back in stock, I usually buy mine in Savers as it’s a little cheaper and I hope it sticks around this time! One of my favourite shampoos was recently discontinued and I can’t take anymore disappointment!

So those are my forever repurchased products that I can't see myself replacing with other products any time soon! Have you tried anything I’ve mentioned? What products do you constantly repurchase?
