Beauty Spend Report | May 2022

beauty spend report daniellesbeautyblog

It’s been a bad month of spending and I feel like my self control has completely abandoned me at this point unfortunately. Working from home combined with it being super quiet at the minute means more scrolling time for me and coupled with some good offers I couldn’t pass up, we have another haul!

beauty haul daniellesbeautyblog

Starting with my mini Essence haul as I was in Dublin at the start of the month. I didn’t have much luck with the Lash Princess waterproof mascara I got in March unfortunately as it smudges under my eyes but their products are so affordable I wanted to try the Bye Bye Panda Eyes Smudgeproof Mascara which so far seems to be holding up much better! I also grabbed their Brighten Up Banana Powder which I am really enjoying – it’s not cakey at all under my eyes! These were €4.40 and €3.75 respectively so around £6.99 according to my currency converter!

makeup haul ft. nars, colourpop, fenty, pat mcgrath

I then made a little Pat McGrath order for another one of the Skin Fetish: Divine Blushes this time in the shade Nymphette. I previously got Divine Rose last year which is a demi-matte shade and I absolutely love it so wanted to try the satin formula. These are usually £30 but it was on sale for £23.

Cult Beauty got me with a £5 account credit that was expiring and since I had been planning to buy the NARS Light Reflecting Foundation which is normally £37.50 I took it as a sign… They also had an offer on for a free makeup bag (£15) when you spend £45 on makeup so I also grabbed the Vieve Eye Wand in Sand (£21) despite not using the Camel shade I got last year as it’s too dark for me for every day. Unfortunately, Sand is not the neutral sandy shade I was hoping for based off swatches but again a rather warm colour just not as dark as camel so again, I’m not sure how much use I will get out of it. I went hunting for a discount code and thankfully found one for 15% off so this came to £44.72 instead of £58.50.

makeup haul

Boots were then having a 25% off Fenty Beauty offer so I picked up a replacement Sun Stalk'r Instant Warmth Bronzer in the shade Inda Sun as the pan is huge on my old one and I got it about three years ago now! This is normally £27 but I got it for £20.25. I also got myself the Pro Filt'r Instant Retouch Setting Powder in Butter in a separate order as I’d been wanting to try that for a while too and 25% is the most discount, I have seen them do. This is normally £26 and I got it for £19.50.

Then, Colourpop had free shipping and I found a 10% off code so have been meaning to try the brand again as it’s been years since I had anything, so I got the eyeshadow quad in Dare to Bare (£7.40 instead of £8.23), glowing lip in Cockatoo (£5.18 instead of £5.76) and pressed powder blush in Flirt Alert (£7.40 instead of £8.23). £4.45 tax and duties were added on so this came to £24.43 altogether instead of £26.67-ish. See my first Colourpop haul in this blast from the past blog post!

Finally, towards the end of the month ASOS had 20% off and while ordering a few pairs of slides (which I sent back) I needed to spend £35 to get free delivery (I swear that’s gone up from £25 recently?) and instead of just ordering a t shirt or something I could return easily, I spied the & Other Stories Miami Muse gift set. I had tried the hand cream in the Dublin store at the start of the month and really loved the scent but didn’t buy it so just treated myself *face palm*. This was £8.80 instead of £11.

So, a pretty good month for gifts to myself and a bad month for saving Overall this month’s beauty expenditure came to £147.69 instead of £186.16. If you want to see last month’s click here! Let me know what beauty products you have been buying recently!

Beauty Spend Report | April 2021

april beauty spend report 2021

It’s been a while since my last spending report because I actually managed to make it through March with a beauty no buy! I know, I am as shocked as you are, but don’t worry, I made up for it last month! Here is a rundown of what I picked up!

It all started with a little Boots order to restock my vitamins and some body moisturiser (I don’t include these as they are so basic/necessary) when I thought I would look for a replacement for my Essie Midnight Cami nail polish which I have went through a couple of bottles of and is on its last legs. Unfortunately, this shade seems to be discontinued which is a typical occurrence for me when I find something I love *rolls eyes*. It was a beautiful, unique, twilight blue with a subtle shimmer running through it and the closest I could find was this navy blue in Infinity Cool, it’s pretty bog standard but I like deep shades like this for my toenails so it will do the job! It cost £7.99 and like I said was part of a bigger order so I got £10 worth in points which I will come back to later! I will also receive £1.32 from TopCashback when it clears!

look fantastic haul olaplex

Later in the month I made a Look Fantastic order consisting of repurchases! My beloved Olaplex No.3 for £20.80 instead of £26 (read more about how much I love it here!), the Barry M lip scrub for £3.99 instead of £4.99 and the Anastasia Beverly Hills single shadow in Warm Taupe for £5.94 instead of £12. I have a full review of my custom ABH palette here but this shade is by far my more used and since it was half price I thought I would pick it up as mine is old! The total for this order was £30.73. These all had 20% off and the eyeshadow had up to 35% off so was a few pennies cheaper! Gotta love Look Fantastic for a discount and I used TopCashback too so will get £1.54 cashback from them too!

cult beauty haul 2021

Towards the end of last month I struggled with deciding to get the Cult Beauty GWP or 15% off my order instead but in the end I decided there was enough I wanted to try in it to justify the extra spend! I picked up a few things that had been on my wish list for a while as well as some newer releases – the Paula’s Choice 10% Azelaic Acid Booster (£37), Biossance 100% Squalane Oil (£27), Keys Soulcare Reviving Aura Mist (£22), Heritage Store Castor Oil (£6.99), Hello Sunday The Everyday One – Face Moisturiser SPF 30 (£15), Vieve Eye Wand in Camel (£21), Lanolips Fruity Babies (£8.99) and the IT Cosmetics travel size Your Skin But Better CC+ in Light (£14). The grand total of this haul was £151.98. Everything is new to me apart from the Lanolips 101 Ointment in the Fruity Babies set which I LOVE and talked about more in this post all about Lanolips. Coincidentally, my original coconutter balm was from a previous Cult Beauty GWP! I forgot to use TopCashback but I did get 5% cashback through my Santander credit card so £7.60!

cult beauty tried and tested goody bag gwp april 2021

Along with a £150 spend came the Tried and Tested goody bag and I am most excited to try the Biossance Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil, Medik8 C-Tetra, Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Face Cream and Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen. There are a few products I’m not interested in so I might try sell them on eBay or Instagram!

nars soft matte lip balm in unrestricted

Finally, my last purchase of the month was the Nars Soft Matte Tinted Lip Balm in Unrestricted while it was on offer with 20% off at Boots. I also bought it with my Boots points as I finally had enough so even better! Now I have 11 points left haha, worth it though as I absolutely love this! It is the most perfect pink nude and the formula is just beautiful! It’s so comfortable to wear and looks so chic as it's matte! I hope they make them permanent! This was £18.40 instead of £23 and like I said I used my points to buy so didn’t actually spend any “real” money!

My total spend for April was £190.70 instead of £225.96 which is a bit ridiculous if I am honest and reminds me of 2016-2018 me when I would spend loads on beauty each month. I have become a lot more selective of what I buy these days and the Cult Beauty order was a big chunk of this and since I hadn’t got the last few as they didn’t interest me I thought it was time for a treat! But it basically makes up for a no spend in the month of March ha! I’ll tell you already that May hasn’t been much better *face palm*

Beauty Spend Report | February 2021

danielles beauty blog spend report

Uh oh, it’s that time again and I really did plan to be good this month but what started with a little slip became a full on slide into treat yo self territory as I started a new job and decided to reward myself muhahaha.

cult beauty lip edit review
cult beauty the lip edit

Back in, I think January, I saw the Cult Beauty Lip Edit was coming soon so signed up to the waitlist. Unfortunately, it’s sold out now but it contains five lip products – the Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Lip Pop, Huda Beauty Silk Balm and Patchology Flash Patch Hydrating Lip Gel which I haven’t tried before and the Nuxe Reve de Miel lip balm and Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Kiss lip butter which I have! For £20 but with contents worth over £55 I couldn’t pass this up as I am going through lip balms like crazy at the minute and I had planned on repurchasing the Sol de Janeiro balm anyway as I loved it so much (it’s £15 alone!) It reminds me of the Sephora Favourites sets and I love the big reusable box it comes in too, I hope Cult Beauty do more of these!

vieve sunset blush cherub review

Next up, another Cult Beauty order and I convinced myself I didn’t need these but then I got a 15% off code and couldn’t resist any longer! I picked up the Vieve Sunset Blush in Cherub (normally £23, I got for £19.55). This is a lot more pigmented than I thought it was going to be so requires a light hand but first impressions are good, it wears for an impressive amount of time! I also picked up the Ordinary Concealer in 1.1N (£4.90 but got for £4.17) which is unfortunately is a little too light for me, the formula itself seems good though, lightweight but not as much coverage as say the NARS Soft Matte concealer. The Charlotte Tilbury Hyaluronic Happikiss in Pillowtalk was the last product from this haul and at £25 full price it isn’t the most affordable lip balm I have in my collection, getting it for £21.25 made me feel a little better! The packaging is not quite as luxe as say the Superstar Lips but it’s a beautiful formula and shade and I can’t wait to wear it more! With this order I also got 5% cashback through my bank as they had a retailer offer with Cult Beauty so another £2.25 will go back into my bank account!

Lastly, I was missing my brow lady and getting sick of having to fill in my brows so much so I did a little order of the Eylure Dybrow Eyebrow Dye Kit in Dark Brown for £6.50. I am super happy with the results of this so far, I didn’t leave on for the full recommended time as it was the first time I had done my own brows but I was happy with the colour it gave so will keep it on longer next time! Also, not pictured is a last minute order of some black lash dye as I may as well go all out (£10.96)!

I also used Top Cashback on my Cult Beauty orders which will give me back 52p when it clears as well as the £2.25 from the bank! My final total spend was £82.43 instead of £90.36! There are a few things on my shopping list at the minute but they are mostly repurchases so I will try to make more of a concerted effort over the next few months with my spending! Hopefully my next beauty spend report will be an amalgamation of a couple of months! If you want to see Janaury’s Beauty Spend Report click here!

Stepping Out Of My Comfort Zone | Vincent Longo Highlighters

Vincent Longo highlighters review creme to powder la bella luce

Highlighters are a funny thing to me, with my oily skin I tend to shy away from them or skip them completely when I’m doing my makeup because I’m paranoid they will draw attention to me (ironic since this is one of the reasons most people wear them, no?). I remember doing my makeup for my friend’s wedding a few years ago and thinking I’ll add a little highlighter, what can go wrong, fast forward a few hours and I notice glitter that has dropped down my cheeks and gathered under my eyes (ABH Sand from the contour kit by the way) and I think I made a conscious decision then not to bother with that step. (I think I was probably the only person that noticed the fall out and I cleared it up pretty quick with a powder brush by the way!)

Since then, I’ve always been extra careful with highlighter, I only use a tiny amount and the highlighters I own all come in palettes with the only full size coming as a free gift! So, when I was sent these two Vincent Longo highlighters I knew I was going to be pushed firmly out of my makeup comfort zone and you know what, I’m loving it!

Vincent Longo highlighters review

I have previously reviewed Vincent Longo Cosmetics on my blog here but very briefly, the brand was founded in 1995 and is known for its luxurious, high performance formulas as well as creativity and award winning products. One of my favourite products from them is their Water Canvas Crème to Powder blush which featured again in my Five Products I’m Loving post back in January so I was excited to give the Vincent Longo Water Canvas Highlighter in Mermaid Muse* (RRP £32) a try.

Vincent Longo Water Canvas Highlighter in Mermaid Muse review creme to powder

Vincent Longo Water Canvas Highlighter in Mermaid Muse review

The crème to powder formula is quite possibly the most unique formula in makeup I’ve ever come across and it feels absolutely beautiful on the skin! It’s moist with the formula containing 75% Microwater – a natural seaweed polymer - pure pigment, Vitamin E and silica. In the pan this looks like a peachy blush shade but when on the skin it transforms into a translucent sheer but buildable skin shimmer that promises to give a refreshing wash of luminous colour and sparkle which it certainly does! This is a little too sparkly for me for daily wear but I’ve been enjoying experimenting with it and can vouch for how long lasting it is and it won’t migrate or cause fall out. The packaging is airtight so keep it moist so make sure you close it properly after use!

Vincent Longo La Bella Luce Highlighter in Flora review

Vincent Longo La Bella Luce Highlighter in Flora* (RRP £24.50) on the other hand is something I can fully get on board with and it’s officially my favourite highlighter! It is everything I didn’t know I needed on my face and I’m going overboard because I love it! La Bella Luce means “beautiful light” in Italian and that’s really what this highlighter is. It’s a very finely milled powder in a beautiful marbled pan. Flora is a pearlescent pink that suits my skin tone perfectly whether I have tan on or not and it’s easily buildable depending on how much glow you want! Ethereal, candlelit and luminescent are also words that are in the description of this product online and I could not agree more, this gives me exactly the right amount of sheen every time I use it and it just adds a little somethin’ somethin’ to my face! I also love the packaging; it’s a sleek black magnetic compact with a mirror inside so perfect for travelling with. I think I’ve finally got over my highlighter fear with this one! Trust me, you need it!

Vincent Longo La Bella Luce Highlighter in Flora close up review

I found it impossible to capture these properly in my swatches but I’ve added them in any way to give you a guide! The first photo on the left shows finger swatches of Mermaid Muse and Flora, the middle photo shows a finger swatch of Mermaid Muse then a brush swatch using the Real Techniques duo fibre contour brush and finally the last photo is a finger swatch of Flora then a diffused brush swatch using a Morphe B8 fan brush.
