Beauty Spend Report | May 2022

beauty spend report daniellesbeautyblog

It’s been a bad month of spending and I feel like my self control has completely abandoned me at this point unfortunately. Working from home combined with it being super quiet at the minute means more scrolling time for me and coupled with some good offers I couldn’t pass up, we have another haul!

beauty haul daniellesbeautyblog

Starting with my mini Essence haul as I was in Dublin at the start of the month. I didn’t have much luck with the Lash Princess waterproof mascara I got in March unfortunately as it smudges under my eyes but their products are so affordable I wanted to try the Bye Bye Panda Eyes Smudgeproof Mascara which so far seems to be holding up much better! I also grabbed their Brighten Up Banana Powder which I am really enjoying – it’s not cakey at all under my eyes! These were €4.40 and €3.75 respectively so around £6.99 according to my currency converter!

I then made a little Pat McGrath order for another one of the Skin Fetish: Divine Blushes this time in the shade Nymphette. I previously got Divine Rose last year which is a demi-matte shade and I absolutely love it so wanted to try the satin formula. These are usually £30 but it was on sale for £23.

Cult Beauty got me with a £5 account credit that was expiring and since I had been planning to buy the NARS Light Reflecting Foundation which is normally £37.50 I took it as a sign… They also had an offer on for a free makeup bag (£15) when you spend £45 on makeup so I also grabbed the Vieve Eye Wand in Sand (£21) despite not using the Camel shade I got last year as it’s too dark for me for every day. Unfortunately, Sand is not the neutral sandy shade I was hoping for based off swatches but again a rather warm colour just not as dark as camel so again, I’m not sure how much use I will get out of it. I went hunting for a discount code and thankfully found one for 15% off so this came to £44.72 instead of £58.50.

Boots were then having a 25% off Fenty Beauty offer so I picked up a replacement Sun Stalk'r Instant Warmth Bronzer in the shade Inda Sun as the pan is huge on my old one and I got it about three years ago now! This is normally £27 but I got it for £20.25. I also got myself the Pro Filt'r Instant Retouch Setting Powder in Butter in a separate order as I’d been wanting to try that for a while too and 25% is the most discount, I have seen them do. This is normally £26 and I got it for £19.50.

Then, Colourpop had free shipping and I found a 10% off code so have been meaning to try the brand again as it’s been years since I had anything, so I got the eyeshadow quad in Dare to Bare (£7.40 instead of £8.23), glowing lip in Cockatoo (£5.18 instead of £5.76) and pressed powder blush in Flirt Alert (£7.40 instead of £8.23). £4.45 tax and duties were added on so this came to £24.43 altogether instead of £26.67-ish. See my first Colourpop haul in this blast from the past blog post!

Finally, towards the end of the month ASOS had 20% off and while ordering a few pairs of slides (which I sent back) I needed to spend £35 to get free delivery (I swear that’s gone up from £25 recently?) and instead of just ordering a t shirt or something I could return easily, I spied the & Other Stories Miami Muse gift set. I had tried the hand cream in the Dublin store at the start of the month and really loved the scent but didn’t buy it so just treated myself *face palm*. This was £8.80 instead of £11.

So, a pretty good month for gifts to myself and a bad month for saving Overall this month’s beauty expenditure came to £147.69 instead of £186.16. If you want to see last month’s click here! Let me know what beauty products you have been buying recently!

A Working Week in Lipstick #1

week in lipsticks chartlotte tilbury colourpop urban decay revlon nars nyx kevyn aucoin

I’ve seen posts like this crop up on a few blogs now so thought I’d join in and show you what lipstick I’ve been wearing to work this week! Changing my lipstick and blush is something I try and do consciously everyday as they are what I have most of in my makeup collection. I don’t tend to take lipstick with me for touch-ups so I look for something comfortable and that will last me until tea time then I will just apply whatever lip balm I have in my handbag throughout the day!

colourpop lippie stix in crunch

Monday
I went with my ColourPop Lippie Stix in Crunch today as I realised I hadn’t used it in far too long! I actually got put off this because I wore it to an interview I had last year and when I got back into my car I realised I had talked that much it had gathered in the middle of my lips! Not a good look! Happy to report this didn’t happen today and I’ve fallen back in love with the sheer but buildable bright coral colour it gives! See the haul this was included in here!

charlotte tilbury lip cheat in pillowtalk urban decay gwen stefani ex-girlfriend

Tuesday
I used my Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani lipstick in Ex-Girlfriend over the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in Pillowtalk for today. I’ve become a little obsessed with this lip liner since I got it, I absolutely love the colour! It comes up as a light dusty mauve on me and is so creamy and easy to fill my lips in with as it doesn’t drag at all. I went over the top with Ex-Girlfriend as I love the neutral colour and shine it gives to the lips! This was limited edition but Urban Decay have brought out Ex-Girlfriend as part of their new Vice lipstick collection though I’m not sure if it’s exactly the same shade!

revlon ultra hd lipstick in rose

Wednesday
Revlon Ultra HD lipstick in Rose was my pick for today! The packaging of this range of lipsticks is a bit controversial as the bullet is very easily messed up if you hit the side of the lid putting it back in. I haven’t had any major disasters but I’m always careful with this one! The range seems to have a lot of very bright colours but this is the only shade I have and I really like it, it’s creamy, pigmented, feels moisturising and wears off evenly – exactly what I look for in a lipstick!

kevyn aucoin flesh tone lip pencil medium nyx soft matte lip stockholm

Thursday
I went with the Kevyn Aucoin Flesh Tone lip pencil in Medium today with NYX Soft Matte Lip in Stockholm over the top. I got the Kevyn Aucoin lip pencil as a deluxe free gift with a Beauty Bay order a few weeks ago and I love it! It’s so soft and pigmented despite being more of a traditional pencil and though the colour isn’t something I would have picked myself, it matches perfectly with the NYX Soft Matte lip. I am a lip balm addict so don’t wear matte lipsticks often but I love this formula! It dries quickly and evenly and feels so comfortable on the lips! I do find the lines on my lips become more pronounced when I have this on though the product doesn’t settle in them at all! When I got to work I did put a bit of clear balm over the top to inject a little moisture! This did make it a bit more susceptible to transfer but it’s a price I’m willing to pay!

nars satin lip pencil in rikugien

Friday
I used my NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien today which I got in the Modern Minimalist box I splurged on recently! I love the formula of the satin lip pencils as they glide on so easily and Rikugien has a bit more sheen to it that the other shades I have but is a lovely rose colour that’s very ‘my lips but better’!

I’m heading on holidays for a week on Thursday so might be a little behind on comments! Do you have any of these lipsticks? Let me know if there are any others I might like!

A ColourPop Haul

ColourPop haul UK lumiere lippie stix super shock shadows

A lovely friend of mine recently came back from a year in America and before she returned, I placed a sneaky order with ColourPop for her to take back home for me! Here’s what I got…

ColourPop haul UK lumiere lippie stix super shock shadows ultra matte

This is a bright peach colour that is a lot brighter/neon than what I was expecting! This is definitely more of a night out colour for me but to be honest I find the formula so drying on my lips I don’t know if I could get make it out the door with this! It’s the quickest drying of any matte cream formula of lip product that I’ve tried so it’s got that going for it but I just could not get on with it! I did try putting a little Carmex over it like I do with a lot of matte lipsticks to make them more wearable for me but this did not agree with that at all and turned into a bit of a gloopy mess!

Colourpop lippie stix lumiere crunch matte sheer

This is one of my favourites! It’s a peachy coral colour that lasts a long time on my lips keeping them nicely moisturised and it really brightens up my complexion! I am completely in my comfort zone with shades and formulations like this and it did not let me down! It’s sheer but it’s buildable and I absolutely love it!

Colourpop lippie stix swatches lumiere crunch ultra matte donut

Another ColourPop lip product I am obsessed with! This is a dusty mauve pink created by Kathleen Lights who I actually never really watch on Youtube but this shade was so hyped I had to try it for myself! I’m so glad I did, it’s like nothing else I own and although I don’t usually get on too well with matte products this one is a different story! It’s creamy and it doesn’t dry my lips out or accentuate dry patches (although I always use a lip scrub before applying lipstick for the day!). This lasts ages on me before I start getting a tell-tale outline around my lips and have to reapply! I love the size of the nib of the lippie stix too as I can be more precise when applying!

ColourPop haul UK super shock cheek skinny dip birthday suit

This is a neutral pink colour with a satin finish and I actually struggled with this in the beginning because I couldn’t get a brush that would pick up enough product for me! Since upgrading my old No7 blush brush to the newer version I have been having more luck with this and love the flush of colour and healthy sheen it gives me. The formulation of this, the bronzer and eye shadows is absolutely amazing and like nothing give ever felt before! It’s so soft and malleable and just a dream to touch!

ColourPop describe this as  a warm tan bronzer which I think is very light and perfect for me to contour with when I have no tan on, it’s very natural looking and I love it! I don’t find it overly warm either and I think it would be impossible to go overboard with it!

ColourPop haul UK super shock eyeshadows mittens to-a-t intoxicate

The super shock shadows were where I think I made a few rash decisions! I was in a rush so had about ten pages of google images of swatches laid out in front of me and decided to go with all mattes because I wear them every day. To-a-T is a mid-tone warm brown that looks pretty much identical on my skin tone to Intoxicate from the Rumer Has It Collection (not available anymore). Mittens is a deep warm brown with a red violet undertone. Now when it comes to eyeshadows I like them cool and taupey/brown/grey so these are slightly on the warm side for me for everyday wear! I do have blue eyes so by rights they should suit me and I think they will if I have lots of liner and mascara on to balance out the warmth of the eye shadows so all is not lost! They are so inexpensive too I’m not that upset I panic bought and didn’t read the descriptions properly before buying!

ColourPop swatches birthday suit skinny dip mittens to-a-t intoxicate

I went with the photos on ColourPop’s website which I found really helpful as they show the shades on fair, medium and dark skin tones but maybe should have looked up some more close up swatches and read the descriptions or I would have stayed away from the warmer tones! Sometimes swatches can be deceptive!

The stars of the show for me were definitely Crunch, Lumiere, Birthday Suit and Skinny Dip! Have you tried anything from Colourpop before? Or have you seen anything you like? I hope they get shipping to the UK sorted soon!
